Obituary

Yvonne (Frere) Van Cauwenberge Yvonne passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 7, 2016 at St Mary's Continuous Care in Trochu at the age of 104, just three miles from where she was born on April 4 1912. She was the third of nine children and the oldest daughter. Her and her brother Maurice were boarders at St. Mary convent during the winter of 1919-20. In Dec of 1920 Yvonne, her sister Genevieve Dallas, brothers John and Maurice, all left for France where they were boarders in separate schools. They spent holidays and summers at their aunts and uncles' homes. They returned to Canada and Trochu in 1927. Her brother Lou and sister Suzanne Beaudet returned in 1932 The family was finally all together for the first time. Yvonne had finished the equivalent of grade 12 but returned to Pontmain school with Suzanne and Lou as she had forgotten her English. She also looked after her three siblings, Theresa and the twins, Pierre and Michel. The family moved into the coulee house now known as St Ann Ranch. Mom married Bernard de Beaudrap in 1935 and they were only together for three month when he had to go to the sanatorium in Calgary where he remained until his death in 1941. They had a daughter, Therese who suffered a brain hemorrhage at birth, was blind and couldn't walk or feed herself. Mom would carry her to Calgary to see Bernard. She passed away in 1950. Mom was the photographer of the family. She and Bernard would take and develop hundreds of pictures. She continued taking picture for many many years. Our father, Charles, had arrived from France in 1950 and was in Trochu in 1952 and was working at the "coulee" where he met our mother. They married on April 18 1953 and moved to their farm, the middle hill of the Three Hills and lived there until Dad passed away in 2011 and she moved to St Mary' Lodge. They had two children, Colette and Patrick. Our mother had seen a lot during her long and healthy life. She did a lot of traveling in Europe both as a widow and as a married woman. Her extended family have her to thank for the many pictures she has taken which came in handy during our reunions and the albums are hard worn by many hands over the years. Mom raised us, kept chickens, a few head of cattle and rabbits as well as driving trucks and combines which were very different from todays. She also tendered a large garden, apple trees and berry bushes as well as many flowerbeds which she loved. When dad quit the actual farming he took over the garden and we remember quite a few squabbles about rows not being straight and whose foot prints were those over there, but dad did the weeding and watering and mom did the picking and freezing and all was well again. Yvonne was a member of the C.Y.O. then the C.W.L. where she was a member for 83 years. She enjoyed a good parade and photography and developing and coloring the pictures before color was invented. She told us that when she got old, she would take up knitting dollies like her mother had, but we don't have any of her dollies! Mom enjoyed classical music, playing bridge and other card games with friends then later on her computer and she really enjoyed her grandchildren. She liked meeting people and she had a big smile for many. She also worked a great deal on the history of the town of Trochu by translating numerous letters from French to English. Her one regret was losing her hearing, as she enjoyed conversations and was saddened and frustrated by that. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Colette (Gary) Rose, her son Patrick (Terra), her grandsons Eric (Kelly Stephenson), Steven (Tara), Taylor and Rene, her brothers Lou, and Pete all from Trochu, her sister Theresa (Louis) Jasper from Saskatoon, numerous nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband Bernard de Beaudrap in 1941; 42 yrs, their daughter, Therese in 1950; 14 yrs. Her husband Charles in 2011; 91 yrs, her father Ernest in 1971; 86 yrs, her mother Mar-the in 1981; 94 yrs, a grandson Ernest Rose in 1979; 3 days old, sisters Suzanne Beaudet in 1982; 65 yrs, Genevieve Dallas in 2015; 100 yrs, brothers John in 1998; 88 yrs, Maurice in 2002; 91 yrs and Michel in 2012; 86 yrs. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the C.W.L. Trochu or to St. Mary's Health Care Center in Trochu. Funeral mass was held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St Anne of the Prairies Catholic Church Trochu with interment in St Anne's Cemetery.
