Obituary

Walter Penner Baerg was born on November 13, 1923, at Swalwell, AB, to Jacob L. and Helena Penner Baerg. He peacefully passed away on June 8, 2020, at the age of ninety-six, with family members by his side. He was the eldest in the family of eight children. He started school in 1930 and spoke only Low German at that time. He accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in December of 1947, by Minister Irvin Harms. His faith was precious to him. His concern was that we would be ready at all times to meet the Lord. He was interested in the welfare of the church and was involved in ways he could be. He was united in marriage to our mother, Rosella Giesbrecht, at Steinbach, MB, on June 25, 1955. They were blessed with three sons and one daughter. As Dad and Mom aged, they moved from one place to another and had settled in at Mannville Care Centre, Mannville, AB, at the time of his passing. The congregation at Dewberry was precious to him. Dad grew up on the family farm. As a young man, he worked in a cheese factory, making cheese, and he also worked in building construction. During World War II, he was at a C.O. camp at Whitecourt, AB. When he and Mom got married he was clerking at the Co-op in Linden. He was employed at a feed mill and also owned and operated a dairy farm together with his family. In 1979 our family moved to the farm at Elk Point where Dad farmed cattle and grain. He and Mom retired to Dewberry in 1991 and he spent many hours tending the yard, helping Mom with the garden, and in the shop with his woodworking hobby. Through the years we took some interesting trips. He worked and farmed and cared for us. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Rosella; Their children, Richard and Wanda - Dewberry; Gordon and Michelle - Steinbach, MB; Lorna - Vermilion; David and Isabel - Deloraine, MB; His precious grandchildren and great grandchildren, Andrea and Amos Reimer, Alan, Jamin and Heidi; Bethany and Josh Reimer, Mayli, Ashlyn and Summer; Derek and Michaela Baerg, Mollie and Watson; Cecily and Zachary Baerg; Shanda Isaac, Gerrol Isaac, Slater; Larissa and Chris Penner; Tyler and Denise Baerg, Hilda and Minerva; Kelsey Baerg, Krisalyn Baerg; Mishayla and Carlos Thiessen; Pam Baerg, mother of David
