Obituary

Violet May (Johannson) Maerz passed away peacefully with her 3 children at her side at the West View Care Centre on September 22, 2015. Violet was born to Armand and Eva Johannson on August 18, 1928 in Innisfail, AB. She was raised on a farm near Markerville, AB. She had an older brother Albert; then Mom arrived followed by Chris, Roy, Eileen, Joyce, and Stan. In her early years she worked at the Innisfail Creamery until 1955, then successfully completed the Certified Nursing Aide course in 1956. She worked in Calgary up until the time she met Gus Maerz and married him on April 5, 1958. To this union was born 3 children: Miles (Carol) Maerz, Arione (Robert Clarke), and Katherine Parker. Mom settled into the farm life early enjoying raising chickens and turkeys, milking cows and selling cream and eggs. To us kids it was a highlight weekly to travel with Mom to Linden to sell her cream and eggs. We had many adventures in the old blue Chev as Mom was a very nervous driver and we didn't help. Many times there was a threat that she was going to stop the car. Mom enjoyed sports. She played baseball in the early years- then once married she enjoyed curling, golfing and seniors' swimming. Mom and Dad enjoyed many camping trips with friends. They enjoyed golfing together and at one time had memberships in Three Hills, Trochu, and Acme Golf Courses. She even bought herself a pair of figure skates to skate with us kids on Tetz's pond soon learning she had to have the picks shaved off. Mom baked, gardened and canned many a fruit for us as desserts for winter. A favorite was her homemade bread and a cup of hot chocolate when we got off the bus on a cold winter day. Throughout the years she belonged to the Legion and Royal Purple. She played the piano and enjoyed the times family would get together. Mom enjoyed being a grandma to nine grandchildren: Kimberly (Doug Miller), Dustin (Angela) Maerz, Lisa (Lance Grieve), Kathie-Jo (Tyler Hoffarth), Karolyn (Rich Jones), Robert Jr. (Meghan) Clarke, Natisha (Barry Kramchynsky), David ( Novalie) Parker, and Kelsey (Brady Tullikopf), being very proud of how successful they all have become. She also welcomed her twenty-two great-grandchildren: Kali, Dakota, Devon and Dane Miller; Ashley, Mitchell and Tyson Maerz; Karter, Ty and Rider Hoffarth; Declan and Olivia Jones; Bentley and Mya Clarke; Justin, Isabel, Aleigha and Caleb Kramchynsky; Shayden, Axtynn, and Dexxen Parker; and Cooper Tullikopf, and one great-great-grandchild Daxton. Violet was predeceased by her husband Gus Maerz in January 2006, her parents Armand and Eva Johannson, three brothers Albert, Chris, Roy and one sister Eileen and one great-grandchild Levi. Violet will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by family and friends. Celebration of Life services were held Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Knox United Church, Three Hills, AB with interment in Maerz Cemetery.
