Nielsen, Viktor: Born April 13, 1926 in Vrensted Denmark. Passed Away November 18, 2016 in Three Hills, Alberta Viktor (Vik) is survived by his loving wife Margit and by his three children: Inger (Don Smith) Bent (Jeanette Nielsen) and Hanne (Earl Paget). Vik also leaves to mourn his five Grandchildren: Chris Paget, Jackie Trentham, Amy Ball, Eric Nielsen and Jennifer Sherburne, and also eleven Great Grandchildren. There are also surviving members of Viktor's family left in Denmark: Two Brothers, Two Sisters and several nieces and nephews. Viktor loved them all unconditionally. Vik immigrated to Canada with Margit and his three children in the spring of 1960 after a difficult crossing (but not for him) by ship across the Atlantic Ocean landing first in Montreal. Viktor was seeking a better life and future for his children in Canada. They knew very little English as they travelled by train across Canada finally ending their journey at the train station in Swalwell, Alberta in a snow storm in April of 1960. Vik started his life in Canada working as a hired man on a farm near Carbon living in, by today's standards, less than ideal conditions. Never one to complain Vik and Margit made the best of any situation they found themselves in and worked hard making a home for their family in Alberta. Viktor's goal in coming to Canada and Alberta was to eventually buy his own piece of land. That goal was finally realized in 1967 when he was able to purchase the acreage near Acme. This was a proud day in Vik's life.
Viktor worked at many jobs including farming, driving truck, carpentry and also working as the Town Foreman for the village of Acme. Vik earned the respect of his employers and co-workers and of all those who knew him. There was no better person to have on a crew. Vik would size up what needed to be done and "just do it. " This is Viktor's legacy. Viktor loved to travel and returned many times to his native Denmark over the years and travelled to many other parts of the world as well. Simple things like camping, fishing, (he didn't care if he caught any) or a picnic at the side of the road was always a source of pleasure for Vik. Viktor loved talking to people that he met and always had time for them. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their heartfelt thanks to Home Care and staff at the Chateau Three Hills and to the nurses and staff at Three Hills Hospital Continuing Care Unit for the comfort and care of Viktor. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Continuing Care unit of the Three Hills Heath Care Centre. Please join the family for refreshments and a Celebration of Viktor's life at the Senior's Drop in Centre Three Hills between 2:00 and 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
