Sylvia Anne Abtosway passed away peacefully in Red Deer, AB on October 21, 2025.
Sylvia was born in Sheho, SK on December 10, 1940. She was the second child of Mike and Rosie Medwid.
Sylvia was raised on a farm near the Beckingham District, SK until 1959 when her parents moved the family to Foam Lake, SK.
In 1960, Sylvia married Don Abtosway. Two years later, they welcomed their first son, then moved to Ituna, SK. Three years after that, a second son joined the family. In 1969, seeking new opportunities, they bid farewell to the wheat fields of SK and relocated to Alberta. Once settled in Vegerville, AB they welcomed another son. Two years later they moved to Edmonton, AB where they were blessed with a daughter at last!
After living in various communities, Red Deer, AB became home. There, Sylvia pursued her education at Red Deer College, which opened the door to a career at Fields retail store. Through dedication and hard work, she advanced to Assistant Manager, a position she held until her retirement.
In 1998, Sylvia embraced a new chapter as she moved to the friendly and inviting community of Trochu, AB - her forever home. There she met her loving companion and best friend Wally.
Sylvia is survived by her four children: Wayne (Brenda) Abtosway of Leduc, AB; Greg (Cynthia) Abtosway of Calgary, AB; Kurt (Trevor) Hess of Toronto, ON; and Lori (Rick) Pell of Red Deer, AB; her eight grandchildren: Nicole (Dwayne), Jennifer, Matthew ( Tatyanna), Christopher (Justine), Sarah (Caleb), Rebecca (Mark), Steven, and Andrew (Emily); her seven great-grandchildren: Blake, Brayden, Farraday, Finnegan, Grey, Baker and Tatum; her loving companion Wally Bender of Three Hills, AB; her brother Nick (Doreen) Medwid of Medicine Hat, AB; her sister Vivian (John) Bulych of Calgary, AB; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Sylvia is predeceased by her parents Mike and Rosie Medwid and her ex-husband Don Abtosway.

St. Anne of the Prairies Catholic Church
