Stewart Henry Loewen was born on April 26, 1982 to Gary and Dolores Toews Loewen at Redvers, Saskatchewan. He tragically passed away on April 12, 2016 near Beaverlodge, Alberta, just weeks before his 34th birthday. He spent his childhood and youth in the Sinclair, Manitoba area, receiving his education at the Stony Creek School, and remaining there when the family moved to Hythe, Alberta in October, 1999. Shortly after this time he answered the call of the Lord to repent, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 17, 2000.
It was very special to hear him tell us over the phone, "I have peace with God". During the next several years, he pursued different occupations, including welding and working with his own cattle. He loved being close to nature, enjoying the outdoors, and camping. He often spoke of some special highlights in his life which included attending preparatory class in Chickasha, OK, and spending time in the CPS rebuilding unit in Houston, TX. In October 2005, he joined his family in Hythe, and a few years later started a trucking career, first living in Edmonton, then for the last number of years back in the Hythe area. When Mom and Dad moved to Crystal City, Manitoba, in November 2012, Stewart moved in with his youngest brother Cory in Beaverlodge, Alberta. Two weeks before his passing, he took a trip to Ontario where he visited his old friend Delton Isaac, and his sister Vicki and Orlan and their family.
They cherish the happy time he spent there. A special memory to us, his parents, is the phone call we received the day after he arrived home from Ontario; he called us from the truck as he often did, and we had a nice visit. Little did we realized this would be the last time we would hear his voice. Life's journey was not an easy road for Stewart. There were difficulties and times of discouragement. Looking back, we wonder if there was more we could have done.
We trust him into the hands of an Almighty God, who loved him and cared for him more than we ever could. He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, Gary and Dolores Loewen of Pilot Mound, MB; his brothers and sisters: Vicki and Orlan Toews of Meaford, ON, with their children Graeham, Carter, Jackson, Alexia, and Christopher; Tanya and Gordon Jr. Koehn of Halstead,KS, with their children Braylon and Kiara; Nathan and Kim of Crystal City, MB, with their children, Kelti, Thayne, Jared, and Mindi; Monica of Steinbach, MB;
Joel of Pilot Mound, MB; Jessica and Calvin Dyck of Bonners Ferry, ID, with their children Ashton and Teagon; Cory of Beaverlodge; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Elma Toews of Reston, MB, and many extended family members and close friends.
Preceding him in death are his paternal grandparents, Henry and Helen Loewen and one infant niece. We as a family would also like express appreciation to those in the Hythe congregation and community who unselfishly helped and offered to help in the search for Stewart this past week.
May God bless you.
