Obituary

Our Mom, Dad's best friend and wife, Sheila Adele, was born to Paul and Eileen Klassen on November 1, 1971, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. She peacefully left us in the quiet of the night on April 21, 2024, after being diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago.

Mom spoke fondly of her childhood; she spent many hours playing in the bush with her siblings. She loved her dad's farm and the work it gave her; choring cattle and doing fieldwork.

As a young girl Mom committed her life to God. She was baptized at the Rosedale Mennonite Church and cherished her faith all her life.

In Mom's youth she fell in love with Pete Toews and they were engaged shortly after her 19th birthday. Married on January 20, 1991, they held each other close for just over 33 years. As we 3 children came into their life, Mom and Dad built their home on the acreage and created the little farm it is now. Mom loved her garden and loved her flowers even more. Many evenings we would find her outside, working on her yard. Mom excelled in growing roses that were not meant for the northern Alberta climate.

In 2002 our family went for a mission term to El Salvador. In our 4 years there, Mom made many friends. Her love of cooking was apparent as she eagerly tried the native's recipes and later recreated them at home.

Mom was Dad's constant companion with Star Fabrication, enjoying the challenge of bookkeeping. The business took them to Taloyoak, Nunavut, where she cultivated even more friends among the Inuit.

Mom loved her little family. When Mike married Peggy and Jessi married Monty, she welcomed them both as her own. Christmases in Jasper were Mom's special gift to us, she knew her children's strong love for the outdoors and would often gift us money for Trapper Gord.

When Mom went to Mexico for her health, she asked us children to join her and Dad at the end of their stay. The few days we spent there together were a highlight of her life.

As Mom began to need more care, she deeply appreciated her caregivers. The nurses became family to Mom and Dad. We would like to acknowledge all those who have been near to our family this past year.

Those of us that cherish her memory are: her husband Pete; sons Josh, Monty, and Jessi of Crooked Creek, AB; daughter Peggy & Mike Webb; and the little girls that call her Grammie, Apphi, Maddison, and Shelby of Rimbey, AB; parents Paul & Eileen Klassen; sisters Colleen & Tim Wohlgemuth, and Pam & Ross Wiebe; brothers Verne & Vicki Klassen, and Delwyn Klassen; Pete's mom Tena Toews; sisters Lola & Marv Reimer, and Marva & Jay Schmidt; brothers Les & Rhonda, and Greg & Louise. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law Dennis Toews.
