IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheila Louise
Minchin
March 22, 1931 – August 20, 2025
Sheila Louise Minchin, née Sinnamon, of Acme passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Linden Westview Care Community, on August 20, 2025. Sheila was born in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland on March 22, 1931. When she was two months old, she moved to Loverna, SK, with her parents George and Patricia Sinnamon. She lived in several small towns in Saskatchewan as a child as her father, a school principal, was relocated for work.
At the age of 12, the family moved to Victoria, BC. After graduating from Victoria High School in 1949, she attended normal school for one year and received a teaching certificate. Her first job away from home was teaching home economics and physed at Lillooet High School in Lillooet, BC. In Lillooet, she met her future husband, Lorne Minchin, at a community dance and they were married on August 25, 1953. They moved to Alberta, living in Calgary briefly, before moving to Ralph Brown's farm east of Acme in January 1954 where Lorne worked as a hired hand.
In 1958, they moved to Acme, living in a house on main street. In November 1961, they bought the house at 223 Alison Street where they moved their growing family and where Sheila lived the rest of her life.
Sheila was an active member of St. John the Divine Anglican Church, and, in later years, Acme United Church as well. She was initiated into Prairie Rose Rebekah Lodege No. 111 in 1973 and held all the executive positions.
She began substitute teaching at Acme school in 1971. In 1974, she became the school secretary, a position she held for 21 years.
Sheila's many activities included Bible study, playing cards with a ladies' bridge group and then later at the seniors' centre, crocheting afghans for charity, square dancing, camping with a Good Sam RV group, as well as volunteering with the Community Chest and other local organizations.
Sheila was predeceased her husband Lorne and son-in-law Paul. She will be greatly missed by her children Kathy, Don (Valerie), Diane, Murray (Laurie), and Gloria, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, a large extended family, and many friends.
