Obituary

Robert (Bob) Delgatty of Linden, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 6th, at the age of 91. Born on March 10, 1933, he was the youngest of seven children (six boys and one girl) born to Earl and MaryEtta Delgatty of Gilbert Plains, MB. He was the last surviving sibling.

Bob's parents moved to Alberta when he was 15 so that he could attend high school at Prairie Bible Institute. After high school, he worked for a year at the Rowland Ranch near Blackie, AB. In high school, he met one of the Reed girls (June) from the Ghost Pine district, and they were married on June 30, 1955. They had three daughters and one son: Bobbie June, Dianne, Patricia, and Scott.

Bob found his niche in a 20-year career with Calgary Power, earning his Journeyman Power Electrician designation after a year on the crew and one year in a district. The many districts thereafter included Westlock, Edson, Barrhead, Cardston, Pincher Creek, and Calgary, where he finished as a Systems Operator in Trouble Headquarters for his last four years.

Deciding that city life was not for him, Bob tried farming again for five years. In 1978, he and June moved to Vancouver, where he became Maintenance Manager for Northwest Baptist Theological College. They later moved to Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island, where he did pole-line work in and around Victoria, including the world-famous Butchart Gardens. Baptist Housing Ministries in Victoria then employed Bob and June until he retired at age 64.

Bob and June purchased a Leisure Travel van to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting Alaska, and they continued to travel extensively around North America. They also visited Europe several times, and he was thrilled to see Delgatie Castle near Aberdeen, Scotland while visiting a niece.

After living for a time in Armstrong, BC, and Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, Bob and June settled in Three Hills in 2015. Bob entered long-term care in May 2022.

Mourning his loss are his wife, June; his children, Bobbie (Paul), Dianne, Pat (Jon), and Scott; his grandchildren, Corinne, Caleb (Candice), Ben, Matthew (Sierra), Luke (Suelan); and his 6-week-old great-granddaughter, Daphne.

Cremation and interment have taken place at the Sarcee Butte Cemetery. A private family service will be held.
