Obituary

Robert Earl Stewart, known affectionately as Bob to all who knew him, was called to his heavenly home on July 8, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Petticodiac, New Brunswick on August 5, 1930, Bob's journey through life was marked by his steadfast faith, a humble heart, and an enduring commitment to serving others.

Bob's early education at Gordon College in Maine and Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, laid the foundation for what would become lifelong ministry. It was at PBI where he met his beloved wife, Vera Bowlby, and together they embarked on a journey of faith and devotion. Their union was blessed with four children – Miriam, Anne, Ruth, and Daniel – who in turn filled Bob's life with the joy of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

After completing their studies in 1954, Bob and Vera answered the call to serve as missionaries on the west coast of Vancouver Island in a mission hospital, a place where their three daughters were born. Their son was born in New Brunswick, during while preparing for their next mission posting. In 1959, the Stewarts moved to Haiti with WorldTeam, dedicating their lives to the children being raised in an orphanage there. Bob and Vera were lovingly known as Mummy and Daddy Stewart, not only to their biological children but also to the Haitian children they loved, taught and nurtured.

Bob's later work involved helping the MEBSH denomination churches partner with North American teams to put roofs on churches. Bob's practical skills were a blessing to many, and his ability to build and fix nearly anything was a source of pride and enjoyment.

Upon retiring in 2000, Bob and Vera settled in Calgary, where Bob continued to serve his church community. His adventurous spirit led him and Vera to explore North America in their 5th wheel, visiting their widespread family – including their cherished American, Canadian, and Haitian children and grandchildren.

Bob's love for music, particularly brass and gospel, remained a constant throughout his life, stemming from his days playing the trumpet at Prairie Bible Institute. His musical talents and appreciation for four-part harmony brought him joy especially if the volume was up.

Described as adventurous, courageous, and kind, Bob's legacy is one of unwavering kindness and generosity. His life was a testament to his deep Christian faith, which guided his steps and decision making. Bob Stewart lived a life that exemplified the love of Christ, touching the hearts of those he encountered right up to his final days.

As we remember Bob, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, faith, and service.
