Obituary

Our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Olive Toews Baerg was born on September 15, 1919 at home in Sunnyslope, Alberta to Henry L. and Katie Unruh Toews. The angels came to take her home during the devotional singing at Westview Care Community, Linden, Alberta on May 9, 2016. She quietly and peacefully slipped away, reaching the age of ninety-six years. She gave her heart to the Lord as a young girl and was baptized in 1932 by Minister Harvey Fricke, remaining faithful to the end. Mom grew up on the family farm east of Sunnyslope, Alberta, the second youngest of seven children. She walked or rode horse to school in Sunnyslope, finishing her high school education by boarding in Didsbury. Her intention was to become a nurse, until Paul Baerg came into her life and her plans changed. They were married on June 21, 1942 and spent almost seventy-three years together. Our parents began their life together farming in the Linden area. The oldest four children were born to them there. In 1950 they moved to Abbotsford, where the next five children were born. In 1962 they moved back to Alberta to the farm in Edberg, where the youngest son completed the family. Mom was a devoted wife and mother and supported our dad in his calling as a deacon. Mom was hospitable, and she enjoyed having company. She loved her garden and flowers. The last nineteen years were spent in Linden, Alberta. She will be missed by her children: Ellen Goossen, Ferintosh, AB; Gwen and Melvin Barkman, Maxville, ON; Fern and Allan Klassen, Stettler, AB; Bob and Glenda Baerg, Edberg, AB; Russell and Arlene Baerg, Carrot River, SK; Bonnie and Lester Goossen, Roblin, MB; Sharon and Jeff Isaac, Carrot River, SK; Daphne and Melvin Isaac, Hythe, AB; Lois and Ron Thiessen, Heart Valley, AB; Rick and Connie Baerg, St. Albert, AB; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also remaining are her in-laws: Agnes Toews, Lydia Toews, and Verda Toews; Arnold & Anne Baerg, Lydda and Walt Regehr, Linden, AB; Dave and Dorothy Doerksen, Enderby, BC. Her husband Paul, son-in-law Gerald Goossen, two great-grandchildren, four brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral Service 10:30 am Sunday, May 15, 2016 Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Linden 253004A Linden, Alberta, Canada
