IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maxine Norma
Piepke
August 30, 1950 – September 24, 2025
Maxine Norma Piepke (Taylor), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on September 24, 2025, in Linden, Alberta, at the age of 75. Born on August 30, 1950, in Three Hills, Alberta, Maxine was known for her friendly and caring nature, her love for family and friends, and her passion for gardening and farming.
Maxine grew up in the Linden area until the age of 15. In 1965 Maxine moved to Acme with her family. It was at a high school dance in Acme where she met the love of her life, Laverne Piepke, and 3 years later, at the age of eighteen, they were married. They were married for 55 years until the passing of Laverne in September of 2023. Together they built a life filled with family, friends, hard work, and faith.
Maxine attended public school in Linden and Acme. She had many talents and interests and later worked in a variety of occupations including a bakery, SAIT, the hospital (secretarial and dietician), and as a bookkeeper to name a few but her main and final occupation was a farmer's wife... working both in the field driving truck, tending to cattle, and keeping the household running with meals, laundry, and bookkeeping. Maxine worked tirelessly side by side with Laverne to care for both their family and their farm.
Beyond the farm, Maxine loved hosting friends, spending time with family, traveling, and being involved in the community. Over the years she enjoyed being a 4-H leader, a public speaking judge, a long-time member of the Swalwell Town & Country Club, the curling club, and the Anglican Church.
Maxine was known as a proud "hockey mom, basketball mom, baseball mom, 4-H mom, riding club mom, piano mom, and figure skating mom" - always ready to drive, organize, and help out with the volunteer work and the extra work behind the scenes if needed.
When her kids were grown, Maxine began again as a Grandma and ran around to support her grandchildren by attending countless games, recitals, concerts, and events, cheering them on and sometimes driving them too.
Once the grandchildren were grown and had children of their own Maxine began yet again as a Great-Grandma. She came and watched a dance recital in Trochu, a school Christmas concert in Three Hills, asked when the Drama production was, and attended their birthdays. Maxine's never-ending love and support is something that has been cemented in our hearts with gratitude and love.
Maxine is survived by her three children, Kathy (Hans) Philipsen, Bryan (Nancy) Piepke, and Todd (Jayme) Piepke. She was a proud grandmother to, Kurt (Christa) Philipsen, Mark (Cheryl) Philipsen, Scott (Ariel) Philipsen, Matt (Becca) Philipsen, Miranda (Dylan) Balaski, Alicia (Luuk) Scheele, Brannon Piepke, Jersey and Shelby Piepke.
Maxine was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren, Leira and Soren Philipsen, Aiden, Bryce, Cody, and Dallas Philipsen, Carter and Logan Philipsen, Maci and Nathan Philipsen, Brooks, Nash, and Violet Balaski, and Kaden, Ella, and Callum Scheele. And as she would often say "And we haven't even tapped into Brannon, Jersey, or Shelby yet." So, in other words more to come...
Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Laverne; her parents, Art and Lucile Taylor; sister, Valerie Bryant; sisters-in-law Violet (Clarence) Greke, Doris (Jake) Prohl, and Muriel (Len) Wiens; and sister-in-law Aleta's husband, Tony Greke; as well as brother-in-law Dennis Poffenroth. Despite the loss of these loved ones, Maxine carried their memories in her heart.
Maxine's life was a testament to her values of hard work, love for family and friends, and a caring spirit. She will be remembered for her huge smile, quick humor, ability to work well with numbers, and a positive attitude. She touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
As we remember Maxine, and her glass-half-full attitude, we will cherish a life well lived and a woman well-loved, her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and in the fields she helped care for.
The family would like to thank the Three Hills Hospital Staff and Linden Nursing Home Staff for trying to make mom as comfortable as possible. We would also like to send out a big thank you to all the visitors who came to see mom. She greatly appreciated seeing everyone. A special thank you goes out to Stella for coming to the house to stay with mom while we tried to keep her home as long as possible. A special thank you to Jim for your faithful visits both with mom and dad. Thank you to Kathleen and Betti for all your support.
Rest in Peace, Maxine Norma Piepke- until we meet again.
