Obituary

Ecclesiastes 3:1 - 2 To Everything there is a season....a time to be born and a time to die. Max was born the 2nd child of Paul Reichel and Bertha (Gross) Reichel Dec 6, 1923. Max had an older sister, Alfrieda and a younger brother, Paul Jr. who have both predeceased him. All 3 siblings were born in Friedrichsberg, Germany where their father was also born. The family immigrated to Canada in 1927.They first came to Coronation, AB. and soon after Chilliwack, BC. A pivotal life changing event of that time was the bombing of Pearl Harbour the day after Max turned 18. All German and Japanese males aged 18 to 40 were shipped inland away from the coast. Max had a rude awakening being ripped from his family and landed somewhere in the Okanagan. He was a very resourceful person and worked at various jobs, cutting logs, working at a slaughter house, and numerous other jobs. Max came to know his Lord and Savior in his early 20's through a young fellow by the name of Alfred Olhauser. Later on Max was influential in leading the rest of his family to the Lord. Bible reading and prayer became a way of life. In the fall of 1946 Max came to Trochu to help Mr. Muench with the harvest, getting his first taste of farming and of course spending time with Olga. In November of 1946 Max and Olga were married in Chilliwack and Max took his bride to his farm at Armstrong, BC. In the spring of 1947 they packed up and moved to the farm at Trochu. They lived for a time with Reinhold and Bernice Muench and by 1949 with help of numerous neighbours they built their house on the property where it is to this day. Max too was always quick to help his friends and neighbours back. Together Max and Olga raised 5 children, Gail (Tony), Byron (Julie), Maxine (John), Shelby (Connie) and Angela (Bernie) who are all happily married. He has 17 grandchildren most of whom are married, and he has 30 great grandchildren. Max lived in the house that he built even after his wife of 59 years passed away in 2005. Max finally moved into assisted living in early winter 2014. Time to join the many who have gone before, including one child, Terrill and one grandchild, Mark, Max Reichel's time to die was May 24, 2015. Memorial services were held Friday, May 29, 2015 at Trochu Baptist Church, Trochu, AB with interment in Trochu Baptist Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Lodge, Trochu.
