Obituary

Mary Bueckert Toews was born September 15, 1939, to Abe and Mary Bueckert near Rush Lake, SK. After courageously battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia for nearly 2 years, she peacefully passed away in the early morning hours on October 20, 2017 at the Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, SK. Mom spent her growing up years in Rush Lake, SK. She moved to Linden, AB in her early twenties. There she met the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Min. Benny Hiebert on Dec. 30, 1962. She remained true to those vows til the end. She married Vern Toews on Sept 27, 1964. They shared the joys and sorrows of life together for 53 years. God blessed them with 3 sons and 2 daughters. Mom and Dad moved to Dewberry, AB, in 1979. Mom worked very hard alongside Dad. She planted a large garden every year and always put up enough fruits and vegetables to share with others. She loved quilting, crocheting, and knitting. Many people received her handmade baby blankets. Mom and Dad enjoyed giving their time in service, spending a year as house parents in Albuquerque, N.M. They also spent some time in the mission at Smithers, B.C., making lifelong friends. Mom was a very conscientious church attendee. Being on time was important to her. She loved singing. Even in her last days when she was unable to communicate, she mouthed the words of the hymns she heard. Bible reading and her prayer life were meaningful to her. She left us with an assurance that she is resting in peace, and waiting for us to join her on the other side. Those left to cherish fond memories are her husband, Vern; her children, Marilyn; Ray and Andrea (Alana, Carly, Micah, and Lindsey) of Dewberry, AB; Heather and Mike Trask ( Krista, Emilie, and Taylor) of Edmonton, AB; Lewy and Rhea ( Bryce, Rochelle,Sharilynn, and Rylan) of Armstrong, BC; and Brad and Kimberly of Edmonton, AB. Her brother Henry and Margit Bueckert; Anna Karpetz and Vic DeMaere; and Helen Bueckert; Her brothers-in-law Harvey and Eileen Toews; Dennis and Hannah Toews; her sisters-in-law Margaret and Basil Evans; Lillian and Alvin Loewen; Mae Toews, and Anne Toews. Preceding her in death were her parents, parents-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and 3 brothers-in-law. Funeral Service 10:30 am Tuesday, October 24, 2017 Lakeland Mennonite Church 6 miles North, 2 miles West of Dewberry Dewberry, Alberta, Canada T0B 1J0
