Mary Scheibler passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Health Care Centre on July 13, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born August 15, 1931, on a small rural farm near Wakaw , Saskatchewan and lived there until 1946 when her family moved to a farm outside Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. She completed her high school there and moved to Saskatoon where she obtained her secretarial arts certificate after which time she worked in a doctor's office for a year. In 1952 she moved to Calgary where she was employed as a book keeper at Alberta Pacific Grain. It was in Calgary that she met Irwin, a truck driver, and after a few years of courting, were married on June 19, 1954. They then moved to a farm in Trochu where together they made their home and farmed until Irwin's passing in 2014. While on the farm Mary would milk cows, feed pigs, and kept the farm running while Irwin worked off the farm to make extra cash. She took much pride in gardening and would supply many friends with produce from her garden. Up and above her household duties, Mary would assist in all farming activities including seeding, and in the fall driving the combine or truck as needed. As a young mother and wife, she used her sewing talents to make play clothes and special dress clothes for her children. She was a very good cook and upon visiting, would always offer freshly baked goods. She maintained her Ukrainian Heritage with the making of pyrogies and cabbage rolls which were enjoyed by all. Music and singing gave her pleasure along with the friendships of the "Bean Bag Bunch" and "Happy Hour Gang". Mary and Irwin, accompanied with friends, would travel to various places which included Germany, Hawaii, Venezuela, the Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, and some Canadian and U.S. destinations. In the fall of 2014 she moved to St. Mary's Lodge in Trochu and enjoyed all the various activities and friendships formed there. She loved going on crop tours and country drives. Visits from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and neighbors would brighten her day.
