IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ann
Loewen
April 14, 1941 – March 25, 2025
Mary Ann Loewen was born to Henry and Helen Loewen on April 14, 1941, near Linden, Alberta. She passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at Westview Care Community, Linden, Alberta. She reached the age of 83 years.
Most of her growing up years were spent in the Swalwell and Linden area, except from 1950 – 1954 when the family lived at Oras, near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. She received her education at Oras and several schools in the Linden area.
Mary had a new birth experience at an early age and was baptized by Min. Isaac Toews on February 27, 1955, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She remained true to the faith until the end. Mary was conservative, conscientious, and never held a grudge. Going to church was very important to her. We have no doubt she's with Jesus.
Some of Mary's earliest jobs included working in Linden at the egg grading station, in the post office and as a telephone operator. During her twenties, she decided to take CNA nurses training. She did not work as a CNA very long before she decided to train as an RN. Mary graduated in the spring of 1971. Her nursing career took her to several locations such as Trochu, Fort Vermillion and Abbotsford. In the spring of 1975, she came home to look after her dad, who was suffering from cancer. After his passing, she remained at Linden, working at the Linden Nursing Home, part of the time as Director of Nursing, and later doing home care, working out of Three Hills. This enabled her to look after her mother's needs until her passing. Mary was truly a caregiver to both her family and patients. Nursing was her calling and career, and she dedicated her life to it.
Mary was a lover of flowers, nature and travelling. She loved to go visit her nieces and nephews. One highlight was a Mennonite Heritage trip to Europe.
Three years ago, Mary broke her hip and shortly after she suffered a debilitating stroke.
Left to mourn her passing are five siblings; Don and Lucille Loewen, Edmonton, AB; Verna Loewen, Linden, AB; Marj Friesen, Crooked Creek, AB; Jean Toews, Calgary, AB; Gary and Dolores Loewen, Pilot Mound, MB; three sisters-in-law: Verna Loewen (Valleyview), Lillian Loewen (Linden) and Alice Loewen (Crooked Creek), forty-five nieces and nephews with their extended families and many other relatives and friends
Mary was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and one sister; three brothers-in-law; one nephew and a number of great nieces and nephews.
We really appreciate the care that she received in Three Hills, Trochu, and the Westview Care Community. We also appreciate Verna's care of Mary.
