Obituary

Marvin Floyd Loewen, aged 89 years passed from this life at Westview Care Community on Monday, December 29, 2025.

He, along with his twin sister Marlene, were born at home while his parents, Ernest and Mary Loewen lived in the Acme, AB, district. One of eleven children Marvin's favourite memories of his early life centred around life on the farm at Swalwell, AB. He attended school in the local school, leaving after grade eleven to drive school bus and then attend SAIT to learn the Automotive Mechanics trade. Marvin worked in the Linden Garage for Tom Toews, and then for his dad at the Atlas Service, where OK Tire stands now. In 1962, he married Joan Markle of Trochu, AB, in a ceremony at St. Paul's United Church in Trochu. They started their married life in Linden, AB, later moving to the farm when Marvin got work in Trochu. By 1969, they moved with their two boys to Southwood in Calgary, AB, where Marvin worked for Airways Rent-a-Car and Jack Carter Chevrolet. Marvin played an active role in his sons' lives, leading in the Cub and Scout movements and involving himself in the local Baseball organization. They resided in the city until 1992 when Marv and Joan moved to an acreage in the DeWinton (Davisburg) area. After retirement in 2001, Marvin enjoyed collecting and working on classic farm machinery, and caring for his pet donkeys. He continued to delight in his sons' lives, as well as in his many nieces and nephews. Later, he found great joy in the birth of his four grandchildren.

After Marvin was placed into care, he continued to relish the company of others and spoke highly of the people and of the care he received at Westview.

Marvin was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years; his parents, Ernest and Mary; his brothers, Raymond Loewen, John (Sharon) Loewen, Peter Klassen, and David Loewen. He leaves to mourn, his sons, Daniel Loewen of Linden, AB, and Russel Loewen (Joanne) of Toronto, ON; his loving grandchildren, Catherine Loewen, Thomas Loewen (Deslynn), Arjay Loewen and Riley Loewen; his brothers & sisters, Jed & Helen Dyck, Pearl Andrew, Bob & Fran Loewen, Evelyn Smith, Barry & Coby Loewen; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin requested cremation and no formal services of any kind. His ashes will be interred at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation to a charity of the giver's choice in Marvin's name would be appreciated.
