Marie Toews Baerg was born to Aron C and Maria Toews on December 9, 1932, in Morris, MB. Mom was the middle child of eleven, growing up in rather meager circumstances. She lost her mother at 19 years of age and had to quit school at 14 to help with the household duties because of her mother's illness.

At a tender age Mom was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on the confession of her faith.

In her young adult years, she worked at a hospital in Winnipeg and also a cannery in Ontario. She occasionally mentioned how breathing in the delicious smell of peaches reminded her of that enjoyable time.

She also went west to work in the Sunchild Mission among the First Nations people there. She spoke fondly of that time and kept up contact with some of these people for many years.

She met our Dad during her Sunchild days. They were married on September 24, 1957, on a Tuesday evening. To this union were born 5 daughters and 4 sons which each were welcomed into the family with open arms. Mom and Dad's love for their Saviour was caught and taught to us children for which we are very grateful.

Mom's love of growing plants resulted in having them all around in the house, gardens and just about any conceivable place where they would make their places of abode beautiful. Her artistic nature was appreciated by the many people she met up with. She loved painting, making little gifts, cooking and sewing.

Dad passed away on December 16, 2015, leaving Mom lonely. Six months later she moved onto her daughter's yard living there for the next 6 ½ years before moving to the Heimstaed Lodge in La Crete, AB. She made lots of friends while there.

She is survived by: her 9 children, Floyd & Sheila Baerg of Beaverlodge, AB, Wendy & Delano Jantzen of Peoria, AZ, Pat & George Friesen of Fort Vermilion, AB, Clayton & Verda Baerg of Pincher Creek, AB, Garf & Betsy Baerg of Tatamagouche, NS, Lynette & Verden Reimer of Valhalla, AB, Bart & Margaret Baerg of Cranbrook, BC, Starla Toews of Wetaskiwin, AB, Connie Baerg of La Crete, AB, Tim Toews of Leduc, AB; 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cyril & Ida Toews, Noah & Ethel Toews, Anne Toews, Bernice Baerg; and brother-in-law Allan Barkman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, parents, parents in law, one infant grandson, one infant great-grandson, 5 sisters, 3 brothers, numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Heimstaed Lodge for the excellent care Marie received. Also, Dr De Klerk through the years, Dr Skein and the hospital staff at St. Theresa Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Mom during her short illness.
