Obituary

Maria Thiessen left her earthly home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on October 1, 2025, 10 weeks after she moved to the Robertson Manner in July. She was looking forward to getting to know many new friends that had been so kind to her in such a short time.

Maria and her twin sister Christina were born on May 15, 1941 in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico to Dietrich and Sarah (nee Siemens) Thiessen. She did various jobs throughout her life but she most loved being a wife, mother and homemaker for "her David" and their 6 children.

Her family moved to Canada from Mexico when she was 12, and they settled in the Swift Current area. She met David in Swift Current, SK in June of 1959 while she was working at a Husky Gas Station Restaurant. They were married on May 15, 1960 (Maria's birthday) in Taber, AB. They resided in the Coaldale/Taber area for most of their married lives until moving to Stettler, AB in April of 2005. They welcomed 6 children, 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren into their family during their 61 year marriage.

Maria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she loved her family well, with laughter and relationship. She enjoyed music, singing together with David in church and special events, bringing the love of Jesus through song and relationship. You could often hear her singing to herself with or without music, and she loved listening to songs on her cassette player. She was always ready to go to Hymn sing nights any time there was one going on. Maria and David together were involved with Meals on Wheels, visiting people in the Lodges or in their homes, taking people to appointments, and were always ready to help anyone that needed their help. She loved hosting people in her home and always needed to feed you something no matter what little she had prepared in the house.

She gave her life to the Lord early in her life, and didn't remember ever not loving Jesus, although she came to learn over her lifetime what the love of God really was all about. She had a quiet impact on everyone she met and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her beloved David and her twin sister Christina in 2021. She missed them deeply. She was also predeceased by her parents, siblings, in-laws and many friends. She is survived by her children: Christine (Floyd) Van Bergen, Dorothy (Warren) Johnson, Sandra Abbott, Dave (Sherry) Thiessen, Ivy Braun(Steve), and Aaron Thiessen; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jesse (Dani) Van Bergen and family; Erin (Craig) Warren and family; Gayle (Scott) Forbes and family; Travis Fehr; Stephanie Fehr and family; Victoria (Dillon) Reinich and family; Shawn Fehr; Micah (Kirsty) Abbott and family; Kayla Abbott (Mitchell); Arthur Choi (Zoe); Dusty Thiessen and family; Amber Thiessen; Darian Thiessen (Trent); Chad (Andi) Braun and family; Toni Braun (John) and family; Shayna Braun (Javin); Sarah Thiessen and family. She also leaves to mourn 2 Sisters, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
