Mary Dyck was born on January 29, 1931, in the village of McMahon, SK, the daughter of Heinrich H. Klassen and Anna (Penner) Klassen. After her mother's death in 1941, she was blessed with a wonderful stepmother, Katie (Penner) Klassen.

In 1941, at the age of 10, Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She walked close to her Lord every day of her life. Mary was baptized in 1946, at the age of 15. She moved from McMahon, SK, to Vauxhall, AB, in 1933 and from there to Coaldale, AB, in 1943. She attended Bible School in Coaldale from 1948 to 1951. Mary had her eyes on David, who was in his third year, while she was in her first. Mary taught D.V.B.S., Sunday School and worked in a grocery store in Coaldale for several years. While Mary worked at the meat counter, she made sure to keep some bacon for that special David who came in late on Saturdays.

In 1955, Mary married the love of her life, David. They moved to Grassy Lake, AB, where they dry-land farmed. They left there for 11 ½ years, and during this time their family grew to four children: Esther, Danny, Arthur, and Glenn. In 1966, David and Mary moved to Linden, AB. During their first year, Stephen was added to the family. They built up a new hog farm. In 1984, David and Mary moved into town and bought a home with a view over the valley. After about 9 years, they moved to the Linden Lodge. Over these years, they enjoyed many trips and holidays together. They travelled to Hawaii, Europe, Africa and South America. They also enjoyed numerous family vacations.

They enjoyed life together in the Linden Lodge until July 30, 2011, when David passed away. Mary continued to live in the Lodge until she went home. She always felt so much love from the staff and residents.

Mary enjoyed serving her Lord in many practical ways. She loved having family and friends drop by; if they needed a meal or a place to stay for the night, she would gladly invite them in and look after them. Mary also loved doing crafts and sewing; doing alterations and clothes for the family, quilts, aprons, potholders, and appliance covers for the Linden Lodge. She made hundreds of baby quilts and sweaters for the Pregnancy Center. Family and friends were wonderfully gifted with many beautiful handmade gifts over the years.

Mary was also gifted in the kitchen: baking, making perogies, cooking awesome meals and lots of canning. Family enjoyed baking and perogy-making gatherings! Mary cooked many meals at their home for Camp Evergreen board meetings. She also cooked at Camp Evergreen. There was always room for one more person at the Dyck's table.

In her last years, Mary slowed down a bit. She courageously fought cancer during the last year of her life, but she never gave up and often reminded us that she wasn't done yet.

Mary passed away peacefully in the evening of Friday, July 31, 2026. She is survived by her children, Esther (Bernie), Danny (Brenda), Arthur (Caroline), Glenn (Jean) and Stephen; her 15 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at Linden Mennonite Brethren Church on Thursday, August 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A Reception will follow at the Church. Graveside Service to follow at Linden Cemetery.
