Margaret Mary Goerzen passed away on May 30th, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta.

Margaret was born in Sedalia, Alberta on December 9, 1929 to Sara and Johann Nachtigal. She was the first of 8 children and is survived by 3 siblings – Anne, John & Helena. In her younger years, her family moved often due to hard times in Alberta as a result of the Depression and Drought. It was a difficult time for the little family. A sod house was their home for a period of time. Love and tenacity, a strong faith, and family saw them through some trying times.

Margaret attended Menno Bible Institute in her early 20's. Through that connection, she met David Goerzen. They married on May 27, 1951 in Tofield, Alberta. They farmed at Carstairs, AB from 1951 to 1957. They then bought the Goerzen home place in the Rosebud River valley and farmed there until 1990 when they sold the farm and retired to Calgary. David and Margaret had 4 children: Leland (Candace); Robert (Linda); Richard (Esther); and Marguerite. Numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren followed to her delight.

Margaret was known for her hospitality. She enjoyed neighbors, friends and family. Invitations for supper and dinner were ever present. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitted many sweaters, and enjoyed her vegetable garden and flowers. She was known as a good cook and baker. Cabbage rolls, zwieback, and butterhorns were ready to serve at a moments notice. Always involved in church activities, she led the children's choir for many years and actively participated in "Sewing Circle". Margaret organized neighborhood potlucks and helped out in school productions on many occasions. She made an abundance of friends in her 95 years.

A stroke and the onset of dementia limited her interaction with former friends in recent years. She however continued making friends at the care home where she resided. Residents and their families along with the many caregivers she encountered will all miss her.
