Lefty passed away in his sleep in the Three Hills Hospital on June 8, 2017. Lefty Dietz was born in Germany in 1918 and came to Canada with his family five years later. Lefty married Violet Klinck in 1950. They operated the Red and White store in Yellow Grass for twenty-nine years. He is survived by sons Doug, Ron (Peggy), Bob (Sherri), daughter Debbie (Randy), grandchildren Chad (Jenna), Nicole, Garret, Joel, Jaelyn, Denton, Kirsten (David), and Chelsey (Oscar), and great-grandchildren Luke, Elisha, Adalyn, Alayna, and Eliana. He is also survived by his sister, Hilda Murray of Weyburn, SK. Lefty was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Anna Dietz, brother Carl, sister Elsbeth and his wife Violet. Lefty was very active in sports (hockey & ball) as both player and coach. He loved the outdoors. In 1972, he and Vi built a cottage at Little Bear Lake, enjoying visits through all seasons, entertaining family and friends and spending many hours fishing. He was known for his beautiful paintings and lathe woodwork. In 2011, Lefty and Vi moved to The Chateau in Three Hills, AB, to be closer to most of the family. Even then, each year Lefty relished trips back to the cabin where he enjoyed spending time with family and fishing on Dougs pontoon boat! A graveside service will be held at the Yellow Grass Cemetery at a future date. Donations may be made in his memory to Alberta Bible College, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.
