IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linda
Penner
October 8, 1936 – July 1, 2025
Linda Thiessen Penner was born to Jacob and Anna Thiessen on October 8, 1936, in Morris, Manitoba. She peacefully left us on July 1, 2025, at the Westview Care Community, reaching the age of 88 years.
Mom spent her early years growing up in Rosenort, Manitoba. At the age of seven, her family moved to Kleefeld, Manitoba, where she received her formal education. She enjoyed helping her dad in the Tin Smith shop and, during her teenage years, was often found at the neighbours' helping with gardening, babysitting, and cooking.
At the age of thirteen, Mom gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by her uncle, John I. Penner. She remained true and faithful to those vows until the end.
At the age of twenty-one, she began working as a nurse's aide at the Greenland Home in Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her nursing work and caring for others. Just as she was making plans to attend LPN training, she received a marriage proposal from Dad (Cornelius B. Penner). She accepted, and they were married on September 25, 1966, in Kleefeld, Manitoba.
They began their married life in Linden, Alberta, and to this union were born two sons and four daughters.
We remember Mom as a loving, caring, and hard-working woman. She loved to sew, and in her later years, quilting became a favourite hobby. We have many memories of working alongside her in her large market garden. As we children grew older, Mom felt the need to work outside the home again and returned to nursing as a nurse's aide at Westview Care Community. She took a Personal Care Aide course and received her certificate on the same day her youngest daughter graduated from ninth grade. Mom continued to work at Westview Care Community until the age of seventy-nine, volunteering in her later years.
Her life with Dad brought many challenges, but in their later years, Dad reconsecrated his life to the Lord, and they shared five very happy years together. When Dad passed away in 2020, it left Mom very lonely.
We, as her children and our spouses, felt the unconditional love she had for each of us. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy, even in her last week in the hospital, as she held her great-granddaughter and wanted to play games with the grandchildren.
In December 2024, Mom developed health issues and spent many days in the hospital in severe pain. She often cried out to the Lord to take her Home. Mom loved to talk about the Lord and left a trail of sunshine during her many hospital stays.
Those left to cherish her memories: Daughter Joy & Carl Ensz of Texline, TX, and their children, Melanie and Logan; Son Stephen & Viv Penner of Stettler, AB, and their children, Rocky, Autumn, 2 great-grandchildren, Berkley and Saylor; Daughter Velda & Jim Roche of Edmonton, AB; Son Glen & Lynnette Penner of Ste. Anne, MB, and their children, Troy, Ryan, and Emily; Daughter Flora & Delano Penner of Crystal City, MB; Daughter Pamela & Ceti Zyko of Linden, AB, and their children, Esla, Azoa, and Sira.
Preceding her in death are her husband Corney, her parents, four brothers and numerous in-laws.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westview Care Community for the kind and attentive care Mom received while living there.
