Obituary

Our beloved husband, Dad and Papa, Leslie Jack Bignold, was born to Jack and Erna Bignold on March 20, 1957, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Dad spent his colourful, childhood years on the Whispering Hope farm near Debolt. Life for him began as a path to adventure and he followed that path throughout his life. Cousins and friends shared in Dad and brother Rob's shenanigans, a book unwritten. Dad accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour in his teen years and was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at the age of 15. He was passionate about his faith and instilled a love for God and the Church into his family through many spiritual discussions and by just living what he believed. Dad and Mom were married February 8, 1981, and enjoyed 34 beautiful years together. They were blessed with 5 wonderful children and later, 4 wonderful in laws. Dad had a special interest in his family and knew the individual traits and personalities of each of his children and grandchildren, always turning their conversation to the events and challenges of their daily life. Dad lived life out of the box and was a man of numerous talents. After graduating from the Ridge Valley School, he was a framer, brick layer and stone mason for several years. Dad began teaching at the age of 20. He used his many interests and unorthodox teaching methods to create fond and unforgettable memories for himself and his students. Dad and Mom purchased Uncle George's farm and raised chickens for a number of years. His artistic talents were being wasted on the chickens so he began a monument business where he could be creative and at the same time lend a listening ear and words of comfort to the bereaved. As his family grew he added a sign shop and the Tomcat systems. Dad was an inventor, always working on something no one else had thought of, like the engineered lines on OSB sheets, etc. Dad served the community, spending 10 years on the Debolt Fire Department. Through his business and service, Dad formed many precious, lifelong friendships. Dad was a man of wisdom. He was a counsellor to his family and others, whether it was in the financial, social or spiritual area. He seemed to know what made a person tick, always had a positive outlook and never ran out of ideas. He was involved in many church projects and gave his time willingly. In all this Dad was a man of modesty, always generous and considerate. Dad's interests were many. His artistry and superb colour coordination was evident in everything he did. He enjoyed the risks and the thrills of climbing mountains and rappelling. Our family enjoyed many camping and hiking trips. A few years ago Dad purchased his sailboat, Chinook Breeze, and loved to take friends and family sailing on the lake. We will miss Dad's unique chuckle, however it was time for him to depart this life. Dad truly lived Romans 12:12 during the last year of his life. He lived in hope, was patient in tribulation and constant in prayer. His wish would be for us all to join him in heaven. Dad was predeceased by: his granddaughter, Rilla "my little pal", his parents, Jack and Erna Bignold, nephew Jason Bignold; Mom's parents, Ben and Amanda Reimer; sister in law Faye Isaac, brother in law Les Toews. Left with precious memories are: wife Cheryl; Tyler and Sandra Bignold, Brock and Kye; Mandy and Curtis Boese, Maria and Naomi; Myra and Terry Thiessen, Owen, Maxx and Sawyer; Shauna and Don Wiebe, Sadie and Bella; and Robyn. Also left are Dad's family: Stepmother Marion and Henry Wohlgemuth; Barb and Span Mykula; Josie and Gerry Johnson; Rob and Tannis, Mom's family: Dyan Toews, Ruth and Brian Reimer, Stella and Orin Toews, Marilyn and Jeff Dueck, Gerald and Bev, Calvin (Jim), many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were held July 20, 2015 at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Rosedale Congregation, Crooked Creek, Alberta with interment in Rosedale Cemetery
