Layton Paul Ramer passed away at the age of 80 in Three Hills, Alberta on March 30, 2024.
He was born July 8, 1943 in Owen Sound, ON. He was the youngest child of Hilda and Percy Ramer. He completed his high school studies in Caronport, Saskatchewan. Paul was joined in marriage with his dear wife, Mary Wiebe on October 7, 1967 in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan.
Paul worked in Emergency Medical Services for 32 years. He progressed from orderly to EMT, paramedic, instructor, and department manager. His career brought him to Saskatoon, Stony Plain, Edmonton, Calgary, Grande Prairie, Three Hills, Jasper, Medicine Hat, Maskwacis, Camrose and Peace River. He served as a first responder in a vast array of situations, and was involved in developing and shaping emergency response programs from inception. His tireless work in the field, teaching, and fostering of new programs impacted many people over the course of his career.
Paul had a fondness for both plants and pets from early on. He enjoyed owning tropical fish, and cherished his dogs, Muffy, Benji, and Bailey. Singing and playing both piano and organ were always a big part of his life. Paul was an avid photographer and a gifted painter. He always loved good food. Traveling was a highlight, especially in BC and Hawaii, and many road-trips east to visit both sides of the family. He loved conversation and a good story. Paul will be remembered for his generosity, enthusiasm, and heart for others.
Paul is predeceased by his wife, Mary and siblings, Ken, Helen, and Joyce. He is survived by: his children, Brad (Lisa) Ramer, Bryan Ramer, Brent (Mary-Anne) Ramer, Brenda (Kurt) VanPatten; and grandchildren Katryn (Matt) Badger, Zachariah (Emily) Ramer, Delaney Ramer, and Nathan Ramer.
