IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laurie Merie
Klassen
November 23, 1962 – February 2, 2025
With deep sorrow and immense love, we announce the passing of Laurie Merie Klassen, who left us unexpectedly on February 2, 2025. She was born in Calgary, AB, to Yvonne and Murray Rigel and is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 42 years, Wayne Klassen; her daughters, Holly Meek and Rachel Klassen; her granddaughters, Emily and Tessa Meek; and her brothers, Randy and Vance Rigel. She now rests in peace, reunited with her beloved mother and held in the embrace of her Lord.
Laurie and Wayne shared a love that was steady, unwavering, and full of adventure. No matter what life brought, as long as they were together, they were happy. Her hand always reached for his, a quiet, unspoken promise of their bond. And when she left us, it was with her hand in Wayne's.
Laurie was a woman of quiet confidence, but once she felt comfortable, her strength and conviction shone through. She had a brilliant mind for problem-solving and quick thinking, always finding a way to help others. Love was the foundation of her life—she gave it freely, fiercely, and without hesitation. But she also valued joy. She found it in the little things: in laughter, in silliness, in the warmth of family, and in the kindness she extended to everyone she met.
Her career at ATB Financial spanned 22 years, where she worked her way from a bank custodian to a Branch Manager, a testament to her determination and sharp intellect. But her proudest role was that of a mother. Raising her daughters, Holly and Rachie, was one of the greatest joys of her life, strengthening the already unbreakable bond she shared with her own mom. And just as being a mom brought her joy, becoming a 'Nana' was the next greatest gift. She cherished every moment spent with Emily and Tessa, delighting in the chance to love and watch them grow.
Laurie also had an adventurous spirit—after years of riding on the back of Wayne's motorcycle, she beamed with pride when she finally got her own. She embraced life fully, in all its beauty and unpredictability.
Even as she faced the challenges of Frontotemporal Degeneration in recent years, her essence remained. Though the disease took her voice, it never dimmed her spirit. Her smile continued to light up rooms, a quiet but powerful reminder of the love she carried in her heart.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering love, her infectious laughter and the joy she brought to those lucky enough to know her. Though she is gone far too soon, her legacy of kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and many dear friends.
