Kim Annette Dueck was born to Ed and Anne Toews on May 29, 1964, in Rocky Mountain House, AB. She passed away peacefully, with Glen and Shy holding her hand, on August 31, 2026, at the University Hospital in Edmonton, AB.

Kim spent her early years in Rocky before the family moved to Stettler, AB, when she was 8. Kim started her school years at Botha School and finished at Lakeview Christian School in Stettler.

She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 8, 1981, by Minister Dewey Unruh, remaining faithful until the end.

Kim had different jobs in her youth, and one of them made her lifetime friends with Clint and Rita Bartel. In 1983, Kim, together with her family, moved to Neilburg, SK, where we met and fell in love. She married me, Glen Dueck, on October 25, 1986, and spent just about 40 great years together.

Kim worked in a few places in town: the pharmacy and two different grocery stores. She made lots of friends at workplaces. Even though she didn’t like the focus on her, she loved her jobs. On days off, she would often come along with me delivering fuel to local farmers.

In 1993, she lost her dad, so we moved to Linden, AB, to be close to Mom, Karen, Ken, and Karl. A year later we moved back to Neilburg, and together with Ron and Pat, got into the trucking business. Kim loved to come along to Saskatoon, SK, to pick up groceries. It wasn’t far down the road; she would slip into the bunk and would always comment that there was no better sleep than in a moving truck. That job ended in 2000. Then we, together with Norman and Marianne Warkentin, purchased a parts and oilfield supply store.

In 2002, we were blessed to adopt Gary, Sami, and Shy, when the role of a ready-made family started.

In 2007, we sold the store, moved to Armstrong, BC, for a new adventure. We bought a place across the road from Grandpa Doug and Grandma Elaine, who took us in as their own and became dear friends.

In 2010, we as a family, relocated to Westlock, AB. Kim wasn’t a fan of big crowds, but in a quiet way, she made many lifetime friends. She loved to slip in sarcasm respectfully and nicely to friends. Along the way, meeting a friend while he was trucking, she thanked him for waving. “Sure is nice to have a friend that notices you”

Her pride and joy was her red El Camino that our dear friends, Carl and Dixie gave to her. She loved that car.

One of her favourite places was outside, working in her flower beds.

Those left to miss her are me, Glen Dueck; our children, Gary (Fantasy), Sami, Shy; and three grandchildren; her mom, Anne Toews; siblings, Sandy Toews, Karen (Peter) Barkman, Shirley (Dalin) Reimer, Ken (LeAnne) Toews, and Karleen (Dale) Loewen; her mother-in-law, Ionne Dueck; In-law,: Pat (Ron), Vera, Donna, Mel (Cathy), Ray; as well as nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her dad, father-in-law, brother-in-law, great-niece, and step-nephew. 

A private visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Funeral Services will be held at Westlock Community Centre on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Westlock Cemetery. Reception to follow at Westlock Community Centre.

If family and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Stollery Children's Hospital.
