Obituary

Josef (Sepp) Durlacher Born March 2, 1930 Rabendorf, Styria, Austria Died April 5, 2015 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Josef, a devoted father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle. Josef passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary on Easter Sunday at the age of 85 with family by his side. Josef immigrated to Canada in 1956 and worked for Poole Construction as a cement finisher. During his employment with Poole, he worked on many projects including the Husky Tower as well as some of the Crowchild overpasses. He retired from Poole at age 54 and enjoyed road trips in Canada as well as visiting relatives in Austria. Later on he found his "home away from home" in Kelowna, BC where he developed a passion for gardening and tending his "fruit orchard" in his back yard. In his free time he made no great demands and loved nothing more than to spend time in the garden. Family and friends benefited from the annual harvest that he brought back to Calgary. Josef is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gisela, his three daughters, Angela (Mario) Nieddu; Ingrid (Murray) Sorensen and Christine Durlacher as well as four grandchildren, Kristina, Stephen, Jennifer and Daniel. Josef leaves behind his brother Peter (Erika) of Vancouver, BC, and his sister Maria (Hans) Kohlhuber, of Austria. Josef will be missed by his nephews Mike Eder, Hubert Kohlhuber, Walter Kohlhuber and Wolfgang Durlacher. The family would like to thank Palliative Care Calgary and the Rosedale Hospice especially Dr. Fong and the compassionate staff and volunteers for their care and dedication during his stay at the hospice. As he wished, no services are planned.
