Obituary

Jolene Ellen Bieganek Toews was born Nov 6, 1978 to Don and Laurie (Squire) Bieganek in Camrose, Alberta. In mid -January 2017, at the age of 38, Jolene was diagnosed with Metastatic Colon Cancer. Though it came as a shock, and progressed very aggressively, her trust and unwavering faith in God shone through-out this time. Although many prayers were prayed for a healing, God's plan was to call her home in the early morning hours of March 26, 2017 with family by her side. Her courageous spirit through this short journey was an inspiration to many people who never even knew her. Jolene was the third child in a family of ten and grew up on the family farm east of Edberg, Alberta. She attended the Edberg Public School till Grade 7 and graduated from Gr. 9 at the Countryside Christian School near Edberg Alberta. During her early teen years she gave her heart and life to Jesus and on Sept 27, 1992 she was baptized becoming a member of the Church Of God In Christ Mennonite. Jolene never doubted her conversion experience and had a quiet, solid, faith in God, remaining true to her vows till the end. Being one of the oldest in a busy family Jolene developed a close relationship with her younger siblings as she helped care for them in the home. Jolene helped out on the farm with feeding pigs and being her dads "right hand man" in the farrow to finish hog operation. In Nov 1999, Jolene left home to spend a very enjoyable year serving at Hogan Hozhoni Emergency Child Care Home in Window Rock, Arizona. She enjoyed being "mommy" to the little Navajo children and made many happy memories with the other girls and house parents. After coming back home she headed north to Crooked Creek seeking employment at the Ridgevalley Seniors Home as a cook, and helping out at the local Country Stitches Fabric Store. On October 28, 2001, she was joined in marriage to, Mervin Toews. They made their home in Ridgevalley, Alberta and were blessed with two daughters and two sons. Although she was a busy mom, she still had time for her love of sewing, scrapbooking, quilting, and gardening. Organization was a high priority for her, and the family relied on the notes on her "mommy calendar" as well as in her notebooks! Being outdoors and family campouts were always highlights. Merv's took a memorable trip in June 2009, to eastern Canada visiting Anne of Green Gables' and many other interesting sites in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
