Johnny W. Baerg was born to John L. Baerg and Margaret Wiebe Baerg near Acme on October 13, 1939. He was the youngest in a family of 4 boys and 4 girls. He peacefully went to his Heavenly home on May 20, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dad gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ at a tender age. Johnny married me, Bernice Toews, at Rosenort, Manitoba on October 9, 1960. We had over 56 years together with many happy memories. He was a gentle, patient husband, father and grandfather, always happy to see the children and grandchildren. Our first eleven years were spent in the Linden area. During this time we were at Stettler for part of a year. Our oldest seven children were born in Alberta. We moved to Saltcoats, Saskatchewan in April 1971. Our youngest child was born there.
Our Dad was a farmer at heart, enjoying his livestock and horses. He was quiet and caring, a man of integrity. We remember many good times working together as a family, picnicing, going on trips, family devotions and suppers in the field.
Dad and Mom moved back to Linden to retire in 2005 and built themselves a new house in town. In 2014 they moved into the Westview Suites. In February 2017 Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and moved to the long term phase of Westview Care Community where he was cared for tenderly by professional caregivers. We as a family would like to sincerely thank them for their loving care.
During the last couple of months Dad expressed his love and concern for his children and grandchildren, wanting them to be taken care of. He spoke of his desire for a home in Heaven.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bernice: children Debbie and Tony Unger, Ste. Anne, MB; Lee and Shirley Baerg, Brandon, MB; Tony and Jackie Baerg, Saltcoats, SK; Mykle Baerg, currently residing in Linden, AB; Kerry and Rachel, Edberg, AB; Lenore and Danny Reimer, Porcupine Plain, SK; Lyla and Timothy Wenger, Faunsdale, AL; Cheryl and Myron Koehn, Red Oak, IA; 31 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also remembering Dad are his brother Tom Baerg, Calgary, AB; sister Elsie and Allan Barkman, Linden, AB; and brothers and sisters-in-law Cyril and Ida Toews, Linden, AB; Robert and Elma Toews, Reston, MB; Marie Baerg, Fort Vermillion, AB; Noah and Ethel Toews, Edberg, AB; Anne Toews, Linden, AB; Elaine Toews, Reston, MB. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters (one in infancy), 7 sisters-in-law and 5 brothers-in-law.
