IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John
Neufeld
May 16, 1938 – September 30, 2023
John Neufeld, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at Linden, AB on Sept 30, 2023 at the age of 85, after a short battle with brain cancer.
John was born to Isaac and Helena Neufeld May 16, 1938, in Nieder Chortitza, Ukraine being 4th of 9 siblings. At the age of 5, they left the war torn area of Ukraine during WWII, to begin a 4 year journey through Europe to Holland as refugees, until finally arriving in Canada in 1947. There is no question God's hand of protection and angels protected them all as their lives were spared many times, as most never finished this journey.
He spent his growing up years living with his family, East of Linden in an old farmhouse.
At the age of 16, after a near death experience, he realized his need for the Lord and gave his heart to Jesus, something that was very precious and real to him all his life.
John received his early education at New Hope Country School until Grade 5, when he quit school to work for various farmers to help provide for the family. He apprenticed at Kirk's Heating in Three Hills as a sheet metal mechanic where he worked for several years, while attending SAIT. He became a journeyman and continued his career working for the Calgary Board of Education. His dedication and skill led him to climb the ranks and become an inspector. During this time, he bought the farm in Linden, spending many years of hard work, building up and fulfilling his dreams of owning a farm. He never wanted to leave his farm and true to his wishes, he stayed there until his passing.
After retiring from the Calgary Board of Education, John used his extensive experience and knowledge to start his own heating and air conditioning company in the Linden area. His company was successful, and he took great pride in providing quality services to his community.
In 1996, John chose to ask Millie Toews to marry him, as she was the someone special that he wanted to share his life with. They shared 27 happy years together.
John's interests extended beyond his work. He had a passion for music and particularly loved playing the fiddle. His music brought joy to many, and his love for the fiddle was infectious. He was known to play at family gatherings, the Linden Lodge and at church, bringing everyone together with his melodies. His love for music was evident to the very end as he always responded positively to it, especially old German hymns.
John's life was characterized by hard work, giving all his money home, well into his 20's to help take care of his mom, dad and siblings. His resilience and determination were evident in every aspect of his life from his educational pursuits to his professional endeavors and his passions. He will be remembered for his strength and his love for life.
His parents, Isaac and Helena, preceded him in death, along with his siblings Helen, Henry, Sigfreid, infant brother John and brother-in-law Leoran. He is survived by his wife, Millie, and his two children: Marlene and Nick Janissen of Irricana, AB, and their children Breeanna and Bryton; and Kevin and Lenore Neufeld of Linden, AB, and their children Ashley and Matthew, Melissa and Craig, Stephanie, and Taylor. John was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Logan and Teagan. His surviving siblings include Elizabeth and Ronald, Walter and Agnes, Alvin and Nola, and Maryanne and Jake and sister-in-law, Anne, along with many nieces and nephews.
John Neufeld's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
