Obituary

James McLellan was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on January 26, 1928, to Thomas and Constance McLellan. Jim left school at fifteen, and went to work for W & R Holmes Publishing Company, where he read and catalogued books. He became the person who decided which of the books he reviewed would go to all the libraries in Scotland. His love of books and reading would last throughout his life. Jim married Jean (Sheena) McNeill MacColl on Oct 25, 1952. In 1955, at a Billy Graham Crusade they both accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, and their Great Adventure began! God began leading them immediately, first, to a church, where the pastor taught them to believe in God's Word and to trust God and His promises, in every area of their lives. Jim's grandparents had immigrated to Lachine, Quebec, and his mom was born there. Although the family returned to Scotland, his mother always wanted to come back, and passed along that dream to both her children. God brought them to Toronto, Canada, in 1957, where they attended a church that held Missions at the forefront of their teaching. In 1958 Jim moved the family to Peterborough, Ontario where he managed a Christian Bookstore. They followed God's leading and came to Prairie Bible Institute 1960-61, desiring to study and prepare for the mission field. Their connection with the WEC children's home resulted in their attending Manor and Jim teaching a Sunday school class that year. In 1962 they finished Bible School and God led Jim to manage a Christian Bookstore in Beirut, Lebanon. Manor church pledged a monthly support for the McLellan family that continued throughout his life. When civil war broke out in Lebanon in 1975 the family moved back to Three Hills. where Jim became the WEC mission representative for the Prairie Provinces. Happily driving thousands of miles, he spoke at Bible School chapels, took prayer meetings, mentored and counseled students for more than ten years. They were then asked to go to Scotland as team leaders for a group of missionaries preparing to go into the Heart of Asia countries, and while there, Jim traveled Scotland, sharing his heart for the unreached peoples. He was also given the joy of serving as team leader in the Middle East, with many of the missionaries he had first met in the Bible schools. He lived the Great Commission, challenging and inspiring young people to do the same. The only other love in his life was his family, and he loved and prayed for them fiercely. His heart was big, and he was always interested in their daily lives and struggles. He will be greatly missed. Memorial services were held Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Manor Gospel Church, Three Hills, Alberta. Memorial donations may be made to WEC International.
