James (Jim) Isaac was born to Daniel F. Isaac and Katherine Bartel Isaac on May 21, 1931 at Steinbach, Manitoba. He passed away in the early morning hours on June 8, 2016, at Linden, Alberta. He accepted the diagnosis, and fought a courageous battle with cancer for three and a half years. Last month he reached the milestone of eighty-five years. Dad's childhood years were spent in the Kleefeld, Manitoba area, attending the Hochstadt School. One family dwelling was a made over cheese factory. Some of his early years were spent with his grandparents due to his mother's illness with tuberculosis. The family started a beekeeping enterprise in the Oak Lake, Manitoba vicinity, spending the summers of 1949 to 1952 there. This led to relocating to Sinclair, Manitoba in 1953. Dad married our mother, Helen Katherine Josephson at Redvers, Saskatchewan, on May 11, 1957. The joys and sorrows of married life were theirs for 59 years. Their family became complete with a son, Don joining them in 1965, and a daughter, Anne, joining them in 1966. Feeling the need of a church home they started attending Sunday services. They found the Lord, and in Dad's words "what indescribable joy, love, peace and freedom from sin, followed." Then they were baptized at the Sinclair Church of God in Christ Mennonite in January of 1958 (by Min. Herb Barkman.) Dad embraced the faith and was faithful to the end. His devotions were precious to him, and his love for God, is a legacy Dad left us. In answer to their prayers they felt God's leading in moving to the Roblin, Manitoba area. Investigation showed viability to further his profession in beekeeping. Dad and mom moved in October of 1959 and soon Lakeside Honey Farm, five miles east of Roblin was home. Beekeeping colored their lives. It introduced them to various employees, several of whom have made it their profession. Bees and bears being synonymous gave Dad more adventures. Fishing was Dad's relaxation and a wide variety of companions enjoyed those times with him. They made many friends among neighbors and business people and Jim, as he was known to all, was a true friend. The coffee pot was always on at Mom and Dads'. Once a friend, always a friend, but that invited his honest advice. They were overjoyed when more families settled in the area and were among the founding members when the Roblin congregation was organized in 1967. After selling the farm they moved into the town of Roblin in the mid nineties. He engineered a roadside maintenance business and did some electrical work before retiring. After mom suffered a crippling fall, dad became her number one caregiver, chief bottle washer, and cook. In 2007, they moved closer to their children, and resided at Chateau Three Hills in Three Hills, Alberta for five years. That brought new challenges, experiences, and more friends. They chose to join the Swalwell congregation at Linden, Alberta and enjoyed being one with them. When mom's health further declined and she moved to Westview Care Community, Dad took a suite at Lynn Haven Apartments, and daily was at her side. Dad often took mom, together with family and friends out for meals. He also greatly enjoyed breakfast mornings with friends whom he called brothers, young and old. After Dad moved to Westview Suites and closer to mother he continued to help care for her until he became too weak. Those left with fond memories are his loving wife, Helen, son, Don and Wendy, Chiliwack, BC; grandchildren Alyssa and Christian, Rochelle and Matt, and Delaney, Tamra and Craig, Patricia and Shane; daughter Anne and Mike Barkman, Linden, AB; grandchildren Amber, Laci, and Jenna; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; special friend Max and husband Ben Schartner; sister Irene and Bill Wiebe; brothers Robert; Herb and Naomi; Lorne and Suzanne; and Alvin and Faye; brother-in-law Rea and Lillian Josephson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to acknowledge West View Care Community for the excellent care dad received especially the last few weeks of his life.
