Obituary

James Percy Barkman was born December 25, 1950 at Three Hills AB to Frank and Winnifred Barkman. He passed away on April 19, 2020 at Three Hills with family by his side. Jim was the second child with an older sister and a younger brother as well as a younger sister. He was raised on the family farm on the Kneehill north of Linden. His childhood was spent with many animals, dogs and horses holding a special part throughout his life. Jim helped his father with the rural telephone as a youth and attended SAIT as a young adult attaining Journeyman Welder and Journeyman Mechanic certificates. Jims work life centered around mechanics and welding but included long-haul trucking, and oilfield trucking as well. He really enjoyed his time in his own mechanic shop on the farm west of Three Hills. He had an incredible talent for diagnosing and fixing challenging problems. Jim was diagnosed with mesothelioma – cancer caused by asbestos contact – in 2015. He fought a long and courageous battle but succumbed to the disease. Jim is survived by his wife Debbie; children Tammy (Andrew) of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia; Lenore (Kevin Neufeld), Ashley (Matt) and Logan, Melissa, Stephanie, Taylor of Linden Alberta; Marshall (Raquel) Jesse, Travis, Layne of Linden Alberta; Tom Hannam (Katie), Kaia and Reese of Airdrie, Alberta; sisters Ruth Friesen (Claude) of Abbotsford BC and Heather of Linden, Alberta; brother Rick of Three Hills. Alberta. He was predeceased by a son Trevis Dean., his mother Winnifred Barkman, father Frank Barkman and Step-mom Joan Barkman. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Erin Calhoun and the staff at Three Hills Health Care Centre and Dr. Hao and staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre for the excellent care that Jim received.
