IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacob Godwin
Reimer
April 9, 1934 – November 3, 2025
Jacob Godwin Reimer passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2025, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.
Jake was born to Frank and Matilda Reimer, on April 9th, 1934, in Mennon, Saskatchewan. He began his schooling in Mennon, completing grades one and two, before his family moved to Dalmeny. Even as a young boy, Jake's heart was drawn to the Lord. At just nine years old, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. This decision would guide the rest of his life.
After completing High School, Dad's family moved to Medstead, Saskatchewan. Jake attended Tabor Bible College and, later in life, continued his studies at Prairie Bible College.
In 1961, Jake married the love of his life, Edna Janzen. Together they took over the family farm when his parents went into full-time ministry for Canadian Sunday School Mission. While in Medstead, three sons were born: Wendell, Marcel and Deron.
In 1970, Dad sold the farm and moved his young family to Nampa, Alberta, where he worked as a mechanic and attended Fairview College for automotive mechanics. In 1972, Dad & Mom moved to Vermilion, where Dad worked for General Motors for several years. In 1976, while in Vermilion, their family grew once more with the birth of their daughter, Cindy.
In their younger years, Dad and Mom loved to play music in church. Dad played the accordion and Mom the electric guitar. Dad was a hard worker and earned multiple certificates – in automotive and heavy duty mechanics – and even got his boiler ticket from the University of Calgary. Dad worked at UFA in Vermilion for seven years. He also worked with Alberta Mortgage and Housing, managing various housing and a senior's complex.
Dad served faithfully in the church for many years. He was an elder, a Captain of the Christian Service Brigade, and a member of the building committee that helped construct the Parkview Alliance Church in Vermilion. Dad's dedication to ministry extended beyond his local community, as he and Mom became active members of the Campers for Christ ministry where Dad became the Canadian President for several years.
Dad and Mom shared a deep love for the outdoors. Dad was an avid outdoors man, he loved hunting, fishing and camping. For twenty-four summers, they volunteered together as campground hosts at Moose Lake, Cold Lake and other parks, meeting people, sharing their faith, and creating countless memories. They also spent many summers attending gospel concerts throughout Alberta, where music and fellowship brought them so much joy.
In retirement , Dad completed many wood working projects, building oak furniture and doll furniture for his family. Dad and Mom spent much time traveling. They made several winter trips to Arizona and some trips to Hawaii as well. After living 42 years in Vermilion, Dad and Mom moved to Carstairs, Alberta, to get closer to family. In 2024, Dad and Mom moved into a Lodge in Crossfield. Near the end of 2024, Dad suffered from a fall and moved into a Lodge with more care in Airdrie. In October of 2025, Dad suffered another fall and was admitted to the Peter Lougheed Hospital. After 22 days in the Hospital, God called our Dad home. He was ready to meet his Savior! Dad's family looks forward to the day when they will meet him in glory.
Dad is survived by his children: Wendell (Suzette), Marcel (Gwen), Deron (Sonya), and Cindy (Gord); his 15 grandchildren: Nicole, Aleisha, Amanda; Bradley, Michele, Jason; Michael, Tymara, Koltyn, Noah; Josh, Aaron, Emily, Matthew, and Brianna; 18 great grandchildren; his siblings-in-law: Norma, Hilda, Walter (Marlene) and Vern; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad was pre-deceased by his loving wife Edna, his parents Frank & Matilda, his brother Ken & his wife Evelyn, and his sister Pat.
