Mom was born on May 7, 1939, in St. Anne MB. She peacefully fell asleep May 10, 2022, at 7:30am as the morning sun rose on a quiet spring day at Pineview Care home in Maidstone, SK. Mom was not responsive for her last 36 hours but as she drew her last breath, she opened her eyes, looked at Kalie and a small smile formed on her lips. She then fell asleep... (did she hear some heavenly singing or see her angel friends coming to meet her...?) What a beautiful passage. Mom married Dad May 4, 1957, in Winnipeg, MB, they lived there for a couple of months. Feeling like they needed to head for home they started hitchhiking back to BC. As they were thumbing it between Winnipeg and Brandon, MB, who should come along but Grampa and Gramma! Grampa's brought them home to Abbotsford, BC, where together with a 5 year span in Armstrong, BC, they spent 53 wonderful years making lifelong friends and raising 4 children. Mom was a very expressive and open lady, making friends within minutes of meeting someone. It didn't matter what their station was in life, lowly or great! In 2010, Bernie and Ang had the insight to pack Mom and Dad up and move them to Nielburg, SK, to include them in their sphere of living. What a beautiful fit as Daryl's were residing only 2 miles away to enjoy Grampas' sunset years. There were many tears from folks and friends when leaving the Fraser Valley, but they stoically accepted change and forged new friendships in the Neilburg community. In 2017, Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease which she valiantly battled with all her might, attacking her handicap with the "Irene " zeal we all understood. We as family watched and helped where we could, but the "Lions" share fell on Dads shoulders which he lovingly accepted and managed to help her keep her dignity until she made her appointment with her Redeemer. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 65 years; Ken, 4 children; Terry & Lorna Duncalfe, Daryl & Vicki Duncalfe, Susie & Gerry Chapman and Bernie & Angie Toews, 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
