Obituary

Mrs. Irene Colquhoun, beloved wife, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022 at Westview Care Community at the age of 98 years. Irene was born on the family farm northwest of Linden on May 14, 1924. She was the third oldest of the 10 children of Lewis and Ida Megli. Irene lived her life with grace, wisdom, and a deep faith in God.

Predeceased by her husband Grant Colquhoun, her parents Lewis and Ida Megli, and six siblings: Alvena Penner(Wilbert), Samuel (Helen and Daisy), Ruby Boettger (Orland), Edna Penner (Edgar), Selma Falk, Jeanette Megli, and sister-in-law Anne Megli (Boldt). Irene is survived by her brother Allan Megli (Mary), Sister Grace Megli-Turner, sister Faith (Hugo) Engler, brother-in-law David Falk, and many nieces and nephews.

Irene began her education in the Antler School and completed her high school in Swalwell. She attended Normal School and received her first teaching placement at Warburg, Alberta. Irene took time off from teaching to attend Didsbury Bible School, and eventually moved to Edmonton, where she completed her teacher training by teaching school and attending Summer School at the University of Alberta.

Irene traveled to Egypt before her marriage to Grant so she was better equipped to teach Egyptian history. After her marriage to Grant, they toured the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, embracing many new experiences and cultures. Irene and Grant also cherished the time they spent attending family reunions, where they connected with loved ones and created lasting memories.

Irene had a deep appreciation for classical music, and Maria Callas was her favorite opera singer. Her love for music brought joy and inspiration to her life, and she often shared this passion with those around her.

Irene's faith was at the core of her life, and she found great joy in studying the Bible and leading or participating in Bible studies. Her well-worn Bible was a testament to her devotion, and passages from Psalms, Ephesians, and Romans holding a special place in her heart.
