Glen Elmer Thiessen was born January 23, 1928, in Sunnyslope, Alberta, and passed away peacefully in Linden Nursing Home on March 6, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary Thiessen, his sister, Verna Bear, and his wife, Lorraine Thiessen. He is survived by his sister, Gladys Mammel, and his children and grandchildren. When Glen was two years old his family went homesteading in the Peace River Country, namely Crooked Creek. After eight years of homesteading they moved to Linden, and after eight more years of moving every two years, they went back to Crooked Creek. When Glen was fourteen years old, he accepted Jesus as his savior at Bear Lake Bible Camp. At the age of 19 Glen married Marie Schultz. They had five children together: Linda, Debbie, Douglas, Donald, and Jim. They lived in Edmonton for most of their married life, while Glen was a long-distance trucker. He loved to go fishing, boating and camping. Glen and Marie later divorced and Glen married Lorraine Highfield in 1987. Glen and Lorraine had 10 good years together and did a lot of traveling as Glen hauled travel trailers across Canada and the USA. Lorraine passed away in 1997, after which Glen moved to Airdrie and lived with Albert and Gladys Mammel for four years. When they retired to Linden in 2001, they persuaded Glen to move to Linden too. He enjoyed spending time there with new friends and getting reacquainted with old schooldays' friends and relatives, especially Abe Regehr, his prankster accomplice. Glen was a regular at Linden's cafes and everyone in town appreciated his smile. In 2012, Glen broke his hip, then suffered a stroke in early 2013. He spent the last two years of his life at Westview Care Community. He never stopped dreaming of getting a truck and heading back on the highway.
