Gladwin Toews went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 20, 2022. He joined his parents, parents-in-law, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, numerous in-laws and friends, his son Dallyn, and 2 great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Lois. Dad was born on the family farm near Linden, Alberta on July 30, 1932. Except for one winter, he lived on that farm until 1994 when he moved across the highway. Then in 2015 he made his biggest move of 2 miles into the Linden Lodge. He was the youngest of nine – 7 boys and 2 girls – in a loving family, where faith was important. He accepted Christ as his Saviour at a young age and was baptized around the age of 11. Dads faith in Jesus was what he built his life upon. All but one year of his education up to grade nine was at the Antler school close to their farm. On March 24, 1957, he married Luana Penner and the next (almost) 65 years were spent growing their love. Their marriage was blessed with four children. They also suffered the heartache of losing their oldest son when he was almost three.
Family was important to Dad. We have enjoyed family times in their home all throughout the years. Whenever someone was added to our numbers through marriage or birth they were welcomed and loved deeply. We have wonderful memories of family vacations. Once they were empty nesters, Dad and Mom also travelled a lot on their own. Dad loved farming and would often whistle while he worked. Serving others was also important to Dad. He fulfilled several different roles at the Linden MB church over many years. He served on the Alberta Chicken Producers board for multiple terms. Dad was instrumental in the development of all the phases of the Linden Lodge. Together Dad and Mom enjoyed driving people to appointments with Caring Cars. Dad was kind, generous, and made time for others. He was always an optimist. We were blessed with an extremely patient father. Mom was blessed with a loving partner and together they made a difference in the lives of many, which in turn was a blessing to them. Although we will miss him, we rejoice that Dads health is now fully restored!
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Luana; children, Bonita (Ron) Dyck, Marlene (Dennis) Wickersham, Darryl (Christine) Toews; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Norman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
