Frieda (Bock) Meding was born in Tarutino, Bessarabia on December 7, 1924, the eldest of six children born to Martin and Olga Helene (Buchholtz) Bock. Because of political instability in their homeland, the Bocks joined many other German families and emigrated to Canada when Frieda was just 2 1/2 years old, arriving in Trochu, Alberta on July 15, 1927. Frieda lived her entire life in the Trochu/ Huxley area. On October 24, 1945 she married Albert Meding and the couple were blessed with four children. The family carried on a mixed farming operation until Albert's retirement in 1983. In 1995, following the passing of Albert in 1993, Frieda moved to her new home in Trochu which she enjoyed until health problems caused her to move into assisted living in 2007. She had been a long-term resident at St. Mary's Health Care Centre since 2010. Frieda dedicated her life to her family and church and found such joy in her garden and flowers. Funeral services were held January 19, 2016, at St. Anne of the Prairies Church, Trochu, Alberta with interment in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
