Alfred Gordon Toews was born February 21, 1926 to CC and Anna Toews at Swalwell, AB. He was the 2nd of 9 children. He received his schooling to grade 11 in Antler and Salem School. He spent a winter at Bible School in Yarrow, BC, then completed his Grade 12 in Rosthern Junior College, Rosthern, SK. He then attended MB Bible College in Winnipeg, MB. Alfred married Anne Falk on April 8, 1950. Together they raised 5 children: Gwen, Ron (Ann), Ken (Bev), Phyllis, and Lynnette (Bernie). Alfred and Anne lived north of Linden until October 1950, and then moved west of Sunnyslope to the Grine Farm. In 1976, they moved south of Linden, and then in 1999, moved into a new house in Linden. They lived there until 2018 when they moved to the Linden Lodge. Dad was always an active business man, whether it was farming, moving buildings, service station, or machinery dealerships. In 1973, Dad, together with Carl Isaac, Roy Thiessen and Robert Thiessen started Linden Agri- Centre, which is still in operation now run by his son Ken and 2 other partners. He will also be fondly remembered by his 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his siblings Irma (Jake) Klassen, Gladys Isaac, Wes (Marg), Ruth Ratzlaff, Allen (Marg), Eleanor Dueck, Jerry (Lorraine) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents C.C. and Anna Toews, brother Henry and sister in law Clara, brothers in law Bill, Jack, Lloyd, sister in law Teenie and great granddaughter Grace. Dad passed away peacefully with family at his side on January 20, 2019 after leading a Godly, productive, rewarding life. His life set an amazing example for each and every one of us. Memorial donations can be made in Fred's memory to the Mennonite Central Committee.
