Obituary

Evelyn Gibson loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, neighbour and friend passed away peacefully March 14, 2017 at her home at the age of 101. Evelyn Gibson was born at Sterlingville (Acme farm home) on January 24, 1916 to George and Pearl Hope. She attended school at Selkirk School and Didsbury. She grew up on her family farm near Acme before meeting the love of her life Harley Gibson. They were married on December 9, 1939 in her parents' home and spent 72 years together. Harley and Evelyn love for each other was an inspiration to their family and friends. Evelyn lived on their farm for 71 years. Evelyn is survived by two children, Gary (Jan) and Cheryl Nesbitt (Wallace deceased), 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, Darla Borbely (Jim), Brendan, Alanah, Pam Jackson (Terry Sewchuk), Parker, Sydney, Shane Gibson (Monica), Evan, Owen and Isabelle, Laurie Brandsma (Ciaran), Bradley, Ciara, Carly, Shawna Marr (Trevor) Jaclyn and Jared and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn loved living on her farm and never wanted to venture very far from it. She truly loved where she lived for both what she got from Mother Nature, as well as giving to her community. Her love of nature shone through with her garden and incredible flowers. She loved her community, and enjoyed curling, golf, square dancing, bowling, creating numerous floats for the Acme parades, and of course socializing with friends and family. She was a leader in the early days with The Bancroft Buttercups, as well as being involved with the Acme Flower Show and the Seniors Center in the later days. In between, Evelyn participated in the Sewing Circle and a number of local clubs. She was a founding member and participant of the Acme Ladies Curling Club, the Acme Golf Club, and a founding and chartered member of the Royal Purple. Being active and participating in a variety of sports was always important to her, so it was no surprise when she took up downhill skiing at the age of 63. Although a bit of a home body, she enjoyed traveling with friends and family to Europe, Great Britain, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and throughout Canada, but her very favorite place in the world was the farm. She was known as "Grandma" to many people in the community, with four generations of families (both hers and those in the community) able to enjoy the Halloween and Christmas magic that she created with her decorations and celebrations. She also contributed to the history book "Acme Memories". She was an inspiration with her solid community spirit and strong work ethic. Evelyn was a wonderful and magical lady who cared for her family, for her community, and created countless memories for us all. Evelyn will be sadly missed by all. Funeral Service 1:00 pm Thursday, March 23, 2017 Acme United Church 413 Bennet Ave Acme, Alberta, Canada
