IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elmer Peter
Wiebe
December 31, 1929 – July 26, 2025
Elmer Wiebe was born December 31, 1929, to Peter and Susie Wiebe. He was called home on July 26, 2025, at the age of 95 years, at Westview Care Community, Linden, AB.
His formative years were spent at the Linden School, where he completed 9th grade. This foundation of learning served him well throughout his life. Dad learned the value of responsibility and caring for others early in life. He grew to become a pillar of strength and a beacon of kindness in his community.
In his youth, Dad heard and answered God's call to salvation. Upon the confession of his faith, he was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Dad married Agnes Hiebert November 6, 1955. This home was blessed with 3 sons and 2 daughters.
Dad's working life began at the local cheese factory. He was a farmer his entire life, but really Dad's life was one of service. His dedication to his church community was unwavering, and was respected by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. His involvement on various committees demonstrated his commitment to service and to the betterment of his surroundings. He spent countless hours in support of elder care and also in the establishment of our private school.
Dad's life was a reflection of the words that best described him: humble, selfless, and gentle. His selflessness was evident, placing the needs of others before his own. He was patient and did not make hasty decisions. His gentleness was felt in his soft-spoken words and the warmth of his smile, which never failed to light up a room. His courage was not the kind that roared but rather the quiet strength that endures, the kind that stands firm in the face of life's storms and the relentless passage of time.
Family was the centre of Dad's life. His grandchildren and great grandchildren, in particular, held a special place in his heart. As more joined our family, no one was considered an in-law; everyone was family. He cherished every moment spent with them and imparted lessons of selflessness, courage and gratitude. His gentle guidance and unconditional love left an indelible mark on our lives. We remember the constant supply of chocolate covered raisins and peanuts in the fridge and the sesame snaps.
When our parents moved to Westview Care Community, they enjoyed the fellowship of the residents and the friendly workers. Even after Dad moved to full care, he was especially grateful for daily cheerfulness and kindness of the staff. We say thank you!
As we bid farewell to Dad, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with him. The memories of his kindness and gratitude will remain with us always. We take comfort in knowing that he is at peace in the presence of his Creator.
We honor Dad's life in a way that reflects the depth of his faith and the breadth of his influence. As we remember Dad, we will hold to the lessons he taught us and the love he gave. Rest in peace, Dad.
