IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth May
Anderson
March 15, 1935 – August 7, 2025
Elizabeth (Betty) Anderson passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Red Deer Hospice on August 7, 2025, at the age of 90 years.
Betty was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and moved around with her family to Forshee, Alberta; Tees, Alberta; Aldergrove, British Columbia; North Portal, Saskatchewan and then moved to Huxley where her parents bought and owned the Huxley Hardware Store. After attending high school in Huxley, Betty moved to Red Deer and worked at the Provincial Training School (Deerhome). It was in Huxley that Betty met and married Orville Anderson on December 11, 1953. They farmed east of Huxley along with Orville's parents and had their first two boys. In 1958, they moved and established their own family farm north of Huxley, where another five children joined the family. Raising seven children didn't stop Betty from also being a foster parent for a number of years. Over the years, Betty was involved in a number of organizations like the UCW, Royal Purple, United Church and school committees just to name a few. She enjoyed playing baseball, camping, travelling, growing a large garden, canning and baking homemade bread and buns. Betty loved to sew and spent many hours in her sewing room. She enjoyed socializing with neighbors, working in her flower gardens and most of all, loved having her family around. In 2001, Betty and Orville moved to Trochu where they continued to be actively involved in the community. In 2015, Betty and Orville moved to Red Deer into a condo. Following the passing of Orville in 2016, Betty continued living in the condo. There she met and made many new friends and enjoyed participating in their card nights, bingo nights, bus trips, etc. In 2024, Betty moved into Assisted Living at Inglewood Optima where she got to know many people and participated in the various daily activities.
Betty is survived by her five sons, Jim (Susan), Allan (Donna), Larry (Misty), Brian (Denise) and Paul; her two daughters, Diane (Jim) Johnson and Cheryl (Nevin) Burne; her grandchildren, Dan (Teresa), Kristen, Megan (Tara), Graham, Tess, Tiffany (Greg), Yvette (Brad), Nathan, Jordon, Mackenzie, Austin, Hannah, Emily, Brianna and Spencer; her great-grandchildren, Flynn and Bennett; and numerous extended nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Orville Anderson; her parents, William and Bernadine Soppit; her brothers, Bill Soppit, Louie Soppit, Bob Soppit; and her sister, Donna Soppit.
