Obituary

Dwen David Campbell, 72, of Three Hills, AB, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Dwen was born on July 18, 1954, in Trochu, AB. Dwen was the child of Johnnie and Esther (Zeh) Campbell.

He grew up living in a modest home on the South end of Trochu with his mom, dad and older brother Larry. Dwen spent his summers with his friends, playing baseball, golfing the course near his home with school friends, and spent the winters playing minor hockey.

Dwen continued with his passion for sport, eventually becoming a highly skilled goaltender and earning his nickname, ‘Civer’. His later years in hockey were spent playing with the Trochu Arenas, where he made many lifelong friends. Dwen started on the Canadian National Railway when only 16 years old and continued with CN until retiring from the rails after nearly 40 years of service at age 55. After many years in Trochu, Dwen moved just down the road to the town of Three-Hills after meeting the love of his life and fiancé, Jean Tainsh. Dwen will be remembered for his selfless generosity and concern for others. He was often found shovelling snow or doing yard work for neighbours in need, filling a grandchild’s tank with gas or buying a friend lunch whenever he could. He was a proud Papa and a good and loyal friend to many.

Dwen is survived by his brother, Larry Campbell and wife, Sandy; his daughter, Jacquelyn and son-in-law, Ryan Olson and their children, Madison (Jordan), August, Charlie (Corbin) and Jette; his grandchildren from son, Johnnie, Sienna (Ryan), Jay-Lynn (Jesse), Dawson, and Denver Campbell, as well as his mother-in-law, Margaret Nielsen, his stepdaughter, PJ (Jim) Remple, his grandson, Brandon (Isabell), stepdaughter, Michelle Ferguson (Bruce), and grandchildren, Ashley (Isaiah) and Cheyenne.

Dwen was predeceased by his father, Johnnie Campbell, and his mother, Esther Campbell. As well as his fiancée, Margaret (Jean Tainsh), and his son, Johnnie David Campbell.
