Sopher, Douglas Kitchener 95, born April 13, 1921 went home to be with his Heavenly Father, peacefully at Westview Care in Linden Saturday April 23 following a battle with Dementia.
Douglas was the last of 9 children born to Maud H (Bloor) Sopher, survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Leola (Clayton) and 5 children Jo-Ann (Bruce) of Coldwater ON, Pat (Mattfeld) of Spokane WA, Donald Sopher of Prince Rupert BC, Stephen Sopher of Orillia ON and Edward Sopher of Phoenix AZ, twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. Born and raised in Ontario, Douglas was a graduate of Prairie Bible Institute (1942) and served in the RCEME Ordnance Division 1942 -1945. He met and married his sweetheart Leola in May of 1947 while they served in Northern Canada Mission. Douglas worked as a guard with Corrections Canada at the Industrial Farm in Burwash ON and the ON Training School for Boys in Cobourg. He was a gifted wood worker and cabinet maker winning awards for some of his work and he loved to garden. He and his wife traveled extensively in North American in their Motor Home after his retirement and then settled in Three Hills AB A celebration of his life will be held at Westview Care Community Linden on Friday April 29 at 2 pm. Interment Linden Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to Westview Care Community Box 220 Linden Alberta. The family wish to thank the Staff at Westview for their exemplary kindness and care for Douglas and Leola.
