Dorothy Alice Sailer passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 15th at the Three Hills Hospital at the age of 84. She slipped gently and quietly away. Dorothy loved being part of the Trochu and Huxley communities. She was proud to be a member of the Huxley United Church Women, the Huxley Women's Ball Team, Acadia Women's Institute, Huxley Loyalty Sewing Circle, and the Trochu Arboretum Society.
Gardening, croqueting, knitting, sewing, curling and square dancing are just a few of the many hobbies and activities that Dorothy enjoyed so much. Her greatest joy, though, was her family. She loved them best.
Born to Stuart and Greta (nee Robe) Greig on January 18th, 1931 in Carstairs. Dorothy was the sixth of eight children. She was a sister and a friend to Henry, Robert, Helen, Isabelle, Lloyd, Vern and George. Dorothy attended school in Didsbury, Olds, Harrow (east of Trochu) and graduated from Trochu Valley High School in 1951. She went on to Olds Agriculture School to complete the Home Economics program. While there, she did numerous babysitting jobs, and worked at farm homes to help with the costs of textbooks and tuition. Dorothy married Marvin Raymond (Ray) Sailer on December 6th, 1957. They were blessed with two sons, John in 1958 and Ken in 1961. Dorothy lost Ray way to soon, as he passed in July 1973. Dorothy and the boys continued to live on their farm, south of Huxley, after Ray's passing. Life was not always easy, but she did her best to make it good. They milked cows, raised chickens, and played as many ball games as they could fit in.
When grandkids arrived, Dorothy acquired a new name, "Gramma Dot". Dorothy loved her "boys" and they loved her back. The time they spent together was one of life's gifts, for her and them.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons John (Yvonne), Ken (Shanon), three grandsons, Hayden, Jackson and Seth, her brothers Vern (Agnes) Greig, George (Marie) Greig and her sister Isabelle (Alfred - deceased) Buchert, her sister in-law Flo (Lloyd -deceased) Greig, her brother-in-laws Jim (Ruby) and Jake (Phyllis) Sailer and sister-in-laws Irene (James - deceased) Diack and Donna (Dan) Spect, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She loved them all so much. Memorial tributes may be made to Trochu Arboretum Society. Condolences may be sent to the family at condolences@sunsetltd.ca Funeral services were held Monday July 20, 2015 with interment in Trochu Cemetery.
