Doris Kathryn (Layden) Schneider left this world peacefully on February 21, 2016, at the Three Hills Health Centre at the age of 83 years. She was born in Innisfail, Alberta on March 16, 1932, the sixth of seven children, to Clarence Noble Layden and Anna Eliza (Flinn) Layden.
Doris grew up and attended school at Maycity and continued her high school at Wimborne and Red Deer. She did not complete her high school education because a payday became a brighter prospect. She worked as a waitress until she met her future husband. Doris married Alfred Schneider of Wimborne on April 22, 1951. They started their life together on a rented homestead house located west of Torrington. Their first child, Kathryn Luceille, was born on April 7, 1952, followed by Alfred William on November 23, 1953, Christine Ray on August 29, 1958 and Pamella Elizabeth Anne on January 23, 1962.
In 1957 they were able to purchase a small (warmer) house and have it moved to the Schneider home place just 6 miles east of Wimborne. Doris and Alfred continued to farm there and purchased the Hadley Poole farm in 1962. The family relocated one mile south to the new farm and then moved into Trochu into a brand new home in October 1975. Doris worked at the Tomboy Store in Trochu and later at St. Mary's Health Care Center as a cook until she retired due to health conditions in 1996. Alfred's death in May of 2006 left a huge hole in her life, but two years later she met and has continued in a loving relationship with Donnie Williams of Wimborne. They resided at the Chateau Three Hills from the spring of 2012 to the present.
Doris is predeceased by her husband Alfred, two sons-in-law Gerald Painter and Danny Evans, parents Annie and Clarence Layden, two brothers Wilfred Layden and Raymond Layden, and one sister Laverda. Doris is survived by her loving partner Donnie, children Kathryn and Terrance Kirk, Alfred and Susan Schneider, Christine Painter, Pamella Evans, Ronna and Glenn Cunningham, and Winston Baird; thirteen grandchildren, Dean (Shauna) Oster, Kelly (Laura) Oster, Tim (Trish) Schneider, Jeffery (Ellen) Schneider, Johnny Campbell, Jackie (Ryan) Olson, Scott (Desiree) Painter, Nicholas (Bonnie) Evans, Adam (Lindsey) Evans, Cody Evans, Alisha Cunningham, Tristin Cunningham and Jaydene Baird. Her family has been blessed with twenty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Eileen (John) Keller, Elva Knight, Gertrude Budd; and four sisters-in-law: Alberta Schneider, Hertha (Ken) Pudwell, Margaret (Ronald) Smith, and Madeline (Russell) Smith. Many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will mourn her passing. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Trochu Community Centre, with Pastor Nicholas Wasylowich presiding.
