Obituary

Doris Becker, known to family and friends simply as Doris, died on April 25, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta, after a courageous 2-year battle with breast cancer. She was born on May 3, 1962, in Kamloops, British Columbia. She spent many years with her family in Calgary before moving to her final home in Acme, Alberta. She lived a life marked by devotion, resilience, and a deep commitment to the people she loved.

Doris will be remembered as a loving and selfless woman whose presence brought warmth and steadiness to those around her. Her life was shaped by strong family bonds, and she carried those relationships with her as a source of pride and purpose.

She is survived by her daughters and best friends, Tanya Becker and Roxanne Braun (Chris). She also leaves behind grandchildren, Kaylee, Ryan, Avery, Kalandra, Kiara, and Marcus; as well as great-grandchildren, Everley and Kashton; her sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; her bonus children, Daniel (Connie), Lilly (Dan); her bonus grandchildren, Nathan and Cole. Doris was also deeply connected to her partner, Dan Altizer, who shared in many of her later-life joys and adventures.

Her family also remembers the earlier chapters of her life with gratitude and tenderness. She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Terry Becker; her mother, Leonida Strauss; her father, Gerd Wolfgang Strauss; her brother, Gary Strauss; and her baby boy, Rocky Douglas Becker. Those losses remained part of her story, yet they never defined the fullness of who she was. Instead, Doris continued forward with courage, carrying both grief and love with remarkable strength.

Professionally, Doris served as a Customer Service Representative at ATB Financial, where she was known for her dependable nature and her respectful way of treating others. Her work reflected the same qualities that guided her personal life. She was patient, attentive, and committed to helping people, and those who worked with her could count on her to bring sincerity and care to every interaction. Doris understood the value of service, and she carried that understanding into all areas of her life.

Outside of work, Doris found joy in the simple and meaningful moments that made life rich. She cherished time with her family above all else, and she especially valued being surrounded by the people who loved her. She found peace in nature, where she enjoyed watching and listening to the birds. Gardening was another favourite pastime, giving her a chance to nurture beauty and life with her own hands. She also enjoyed deer hunting and motorcycle rides with her partner and friends, experiences that brought her both excitement and companionship. These interests reflected a woman who appreciated the outdoors, valued togetherness, and embraced life with energy and heart.

Those who knew Doris best describe her as courageous, selfless, and loving. She met hardship with determination and carried herself with quiet strength. Her courage was evident in the way she faced illness, and her selflessness was evident in the way she consistently put others before herself. Her love for her family was unwavering, and it was the center of everything she did.

As author Maya Angelou once said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Doris Becker made people feel seen, valued, and cared for. That legacy will remain with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, partner, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Doris Becker’s life story is one of devotion, strength, and love. From Kamloops to Acme, from her work at the bank to the quiet moments spent with birds, gardens, family, and friends, she lived with purpose and grace. Her memory will continue to shine in the lives she touched and in the family she helped shape.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Acme Community Centre, with a reception to follow.
