Obituary

Denver Elden Reimer was born to David and Tina Reimer in their home at Swalwell, AB on October 5, 1933. He peacefully passed away at Westview Care Community, Linden, AB, after a short fight with pneumonia on March 31, 2024, at 90 years of age.

Dad grew up with his brother and three sisters on the farm in Swalwell, walking 2.5 miles to Fertile Valley School where he completed all his eight grades of education. He helped with the farming, milking cows, and hauling milk to the cheese factory in Linden. Dad accepted Jesus as his Savior at the young age of eleven and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Frank Hiebert. He embraced this faith to the end.

As a young man dad worked in construction and he used this experience throughout his life. He also worked in the lumber camps around Crooked Creek in the winter, and this is where he met our mother, Rosie Thiessen. Dad and Mom were married on June 9, 1957. After spending their first two years in Linden, they moved to Heart Valley where they bought a farm and raised their family of two girls and three boys. They were one of the first families to begin the small congregation there. Dad and Mom loved to travel and took many road trips through USA and Canada. A very special time in their life was the two years spent as houseparents at the CPS unit in Newfoundland.

Dad was a farmer, a cattleman, a carpenter, an electrician, a plumber, a mechanic and a welder. He was a Jack of All Trades and mastered every one of them. What he did find difficult was keeping the shop clean and organized! He enjoyed being on the building board when the congregation grew and added a new church and school. Many times, he would exchange work with his neighbors, helping out wherever the need was. He was a hard worker, providing well for his family. Dad was always very patient, kind, and generous.

Mom passed away in 2007, just after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dad grieved her loss very deeply. He then moved to Linden; often spending winters in Yuma.

Dad found love and companionship again in 2012 when he married mom's sister, Ella Thiessen Wohlgemuth on October 27, and they enjoyed life together for ten years, eight of which were lived at Westview Care Community. Singing or reading together was their best pastime. He was alone again for almost a year after Ella passed away last April. Though he suffered with dementia, he was a cheerful man with a ready smile. We are so thankful for the loving care he received from the Westview Care Community staff. Over the last while they have heard dad singing, day or night, and it felt like he was getting ready for his heavenly home.

Left with precious memories are: his children, Dorothy & Warren Brown of Wanham, AB, Beverly & Andy Mandel of Linden, AB, Maynard & Louise of Lake Forest, CA, Dean & Kelly of Yuma, AZ, Chester & Terri of Linden, AB; daughters-in-Law Yvonne Reimer and Shauna Reimer; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother Ken & Norma Reimer; sister Joyce & Melvin Klassen; sister-in-law Margaret Fehr; the Thiessen family, Wilbert & Rebecca, Olive & Wayne Klassen, Marian & Keith Isaac, Lill Thiessen, and Viola Thiessen.
